Every 2027 Color Of The Year (So Far!)

The annual Color of the Year announcements started rolling out VERY early this year (staring in August!). But now that we’re approaching the holiday season, we’ve seen announcements from nearly ALL of the brands we track. So just like we’ve done for 2024, 2025, and 2026 – we’ve kept this post updated every time a new one is announced so you can see all the COTY selections in one convenient place. So far the colors are pretty varied, but there is definitely a theme in the language many of the brands are using to describe their choices…

While color forecasting and design trends are serious business for these companies, we mostly enjoy the fun of guessing what will be picked and how people react to the choices. People were big mad at Pantone last year! You can see our predictions for this year at the bottom of this post.
What is the 2027 Color of the Year?
Each year, most major paint and color brands announce their “color of the year,” which is usually meant to encapsulate current or future design trends. So rather than having one official Color of the Year, you’ll see many selections from folks like Benjamin Moore, Sherwin-Williams, and Pantone. Some companies will also announce color collections or entire palettes. They act as commentary on both design trends and the world at large, while also helping laypeople pick trending hues. And of course, it’s all a good marketing gimmick or PR stunt for these brands… one we’re suckers for every year!

Looking at them all together like this really gives you a sense of an overall trend for that year, as well as how things are shifting across time. 2025 was notably darker and more muted than 2024, with brands going heavy on deep browns and purples. 2026 saw more variety in the hues, but things were still fairly muted and neutral (we always hope for more color than the last two years have given us).
Every 2027 Color of the Year
We are tracking 13* brands this year, but are always on the lookout for others. As of October 6, 2026, nine brands have announced their 2027 Color of the Year. We’ll keep this list updated as more of them roll out.
- Sherwin-Williams: Celery
- Behr: Grounded
- Glidden: Artifact
- Valspar: Cottage Door
- Dunn-Edwards: French Press Coffee
- Dutch Boy: Deep Rooted
- Minwax: Picked Oak
- Graham & Brown: Rose Earth
- C2 Paints: Pueblo
*2027 is the second consecutive year that HGTV Home has echoed the selection by its parent brand, Sherwin-Williams, so they no longer have their own square below.

Here’s a closer look at each color selected.
Sherwin-Williams’ 2027 Color of the Year

Sherwin-Williams selected Celery as its 2027 Color of the Year. This fresh “herbal green” is perhaps the boldest pick so far this COTY season, and the most daring pick Sherwin-Williams has made in several years. In explaining their selection, Sherwin-Williams uses similar language to other, more earthy picks this year – saying there’s a “hunger for serenity” and “calm, restoration, and connection.”

Celery was also the 2027 Color of the Year for HGTV Home by Sherwin-Williams, making this the second year that HGTV Home has not picked a separate color from its parent brand.
Behr’s 2027 Color of the Year

On August 26, Behr became the third brand to announce it’s 2027 Color of the Year: Grounded. They describe it as a “mossy olive with brown undertones” that turns rooms into “personal sanctuaries” and “invites a deeper exhale.” It’s an interesting continuation of terms used to describe Dutch Boy’s selection (Deep Rooted), which was announced one day before Behr’s.

Grounded is also the 4th consecutive year that Behr has selected a dark, saturated color. Perhaps it represents an ongoing trend of moody, cozy spaces. Perhaps they’re still recovering from the backlash of picking a near white in 2023, which always seems to be an unpopular pick (like Pantone experienced in 2026).
Glidden’s 2027 Color of the Year

Glidden selected Artifact as their 2027 Color of the Year. It’s a smoky blue that is remarkably similar to Valspar’s selection (which was announced about a month earlier). It’s a shade that is a quintessential COTY pick because it’s classic, calming, and colorful without being bold. In their announcement, Glidden explains the selection as a “shift toward…colors that feel welcoming, personal, and timeless.”

While 2027’s pick is on the safer side, Glidden is coming off a run of riskier selections over the last few years. So perhaps Artifact is just a return to their tendency to pick blues, greens, and other cool colors.
Valspar’s 2027 Color of the Year

Valspar kicked off this year’s COTY announcements with a steely blue called Cottage Door. They describe it as a “trans-seasonal color” for “thoughtful and introspective spaces,” which is a response to a cultural shift they see toward intentional, authentic, and heartfelt living. They suggest pairing it with a creamy pink and warm gray, as well as natural textures and playful patterns.

This is Valspar’s fourth year picking a Color of the Year, and you can see above that they love a blue. All of the choices are solid and reliable, but it will be interesting to see if they surprise us in 2028.
Dunn-Edwards’ 2027 Color of the Year

Dunn-Edwards selected French Press Coffee as their 2027 Color of the Year. It’s a deep brown with purple undertones that they describe as an “elevated neutral.” It’s an anchor hue in their Color Trends 2027 collection, which they say reflects a trend toward “grounded warmth” and nature tones. There’s that grounded word we’re hearing a lot this year!

Looking back at Dunn-Edwards’ last decade of selections, they have one of the most varied, deeply saturated palettes. They rarely pick a light or neutral color like gray, white, or cream, so it tracks that their version of a neutral in 2027 is still bold and rich… like coffee, I guess!
Dutch Boy’s 2027 Color of the Year

Dutch Boy was the second brand to announce, choosing an earthy orange called Deep Rooted as their 2027 Color of the Year. Both the name and the color reflect what Dutch describes as a trend toward “people seeking more grounding, authenticity, and connection.” This echoes some of the language we saw in the first announcement by Valspar.

When looking at Dutch Boy’s COTY selections over the past decade, they’ve bounced around in a nice way – from warm to cool, neutral to colorful, and light to dark. They seem to aim for saturated, statement colors with that bit of gray or “muddiness” that makes them suitable for interior spaces.
Minwax’s 2027 Color of the Year

Minwax selected Pickled Oak as their 2027 Color of the Year. They explain that this light, airy stain color because it lets the wood’s natural grain and color show, reflecting a desire for organic, authentic hues. It’s a pretty notable shift from previous years’ selections that favor stains that significantly darken or color the wood.

It’s actually nice to see Minwax choosing more “natural” wood tones the last couple of years, since that’s what we tend to use. We can imagine they feel pressured to choose some of their more colorful stains for “Color of the Year,” but this is one brand we’d be happy to see more neutral choices from.
Graham & Brown’s 2027 Color of the Year

Graham & Brown selected Rose Earth as part of their 2027 Design of the Year selections. As a wallcoverings brand, they also select a wallpaper pattern and a mural that pair with this hue. This warm neutral is inspired by Italian clay and is the third 2027 COTY to reference elements like earth, ground, or roots.

Interestingly, this is Graham & Brown’s third consecutive warm, brown selection – perhaps they’re just trying to live up to their name! But it will be interesting to see if they pivot back to more vibrant colors they picked in earlier years.
C2 Paint’s Color of the Year 2027

For 2027, C2 Paints selected Pueblo as their Color of the Year. It leads a trend they’ve dubbed “Rural Renaissance,” which represents a shift away from calm & retreat and towards reconnection & sensory experiences. They point to thing like noticing the light, working with your hands, and surrounding yourself with materials. They’ve chosen this rosy plum because of its “remarkable relationship with light,” changing moods from day to night.

Pueblo is remarkably close to my prediction of a “dusty rose” color this year (see below). And coincidentally, it was the second consecutive year that I guessed something close to C2 Paint’s pick. Last year I predicted a “creamy white,” not too far off from C2’s pick Epernay.
Our 2027 Color of the Year Predictions
Every year, the studio and I like to guess 3 colors we think will show up on the list. It’s all in good fun, and you can tell below that we’re both hoping for a return to more color. In full disclosure, I saw the Valspar announcement before making my picks, but I kept the studio in the dark so she could make her selections 100% blind.
As of October, only one of our guesses has been close – with C2 Paint’s Pueblo being a “dusty rose” like I predicted. the studio still has her fingers crossed for Benjamin Moore, Pantone, or one of the spray paint brands to come through for her!
