Casa Petersik: We’re Putting Our House on the Market

Big news: after four and a half wonderful years in our current home, we’ve decided to sell. This wasn’t a snap decision. We talked it over, weighed the pros and cons, and realized that our passion for renovating and restoring older houses is stronger than our desire to stay put. We love the challenges of remodels, the thrill of painting and design, and the idea of taking on a fresh project—so we’re excited to begin the hunt for a new Casa Petersik.

Leaving a home you’ve poured your heart into is bittersweet. We’ve transformed this property into something we truly love, and it will always hold a special place in our lives. Still, as John put it, “We’ve enjoyed transforming an old, dated house way too much to stop at just one.” That sums up our thinking: we’re ready to apply everything we’ve learned to a new older home that needs care, character, and creative updates.

At first I resisted the idea—who doesn’t imagine their first big renovation as a forever home? But after casually visiting a few open houses a few months back, the possibilities lit up my brain. One small look quickly turned into a dozen ideas for paint choices, layouts, and projects. Instead of feeling overwhelmed by starting over, we feel energized by the chance to transform another property.

We didn’t act hastily. We spent time discussing the move together and talking it through with both sets of parents. Their support and enthusiasm helped confirm that this is the right time for us to sell and to search for a new older home with charm and potential.

So here’s the plan: we’re preparing to list our house and we’re actively touring homes for sale in and around Richmond. We plan to stay in the Richmond region and are specifically looking for another older, dated house that would benefit from a thoughtful renovation. While we love Bon Air and are open to staying there, we’re also exploring other neighborhoods with good schools, tree-lined streets, and historic charm. This will be a gradual process. Finding a house we love as much as this one won’t happen overnight, and selling our current home could take some months. In the meantime, we’ll be busy getting the house ready for market—finishing key projects, staging, and documenting improvements—so that it’s shown in the best possible light.
