We tried hard not to be unbearably awkward. Did we succeed? You be the judge. For this year’s blogiversary we invited readers to ask us personal, non-decorating questions on our Facebook page. More than two hundred questions rolled in, so Sherry and I filmed ourselves answering as many as we could while Clara took a nap. We edited that conversation down into a single, roughly 20-minute video that covers a lot of ground—from family life and work to the small, silly things that make us who we are.
In the video we respond to a wide range of topics, including:
- Whether Sherry is expecting another baby
- How our book sales translate into income
- How running a blog and business together affects our marriage
- How often readers knock on our door asking for a tour
- Whether we’re concerned about stalkers
- Our thoughts on homeschooling Clara
- How many bras Sherry actually owns
- When we might move again
- Plans for the playroom and other unfinished projects
- Whether Sherry’s dad is as low-key as he seems
- What we’d change about our old house’s style
- Why we try not to pick our noses in public
- What we dislike most about our job
- What we each find romantic about the other
- How Sherry might bribe me into seeing a movie I’d normally skip
- Who we’d cast to play us in a hypothetical movie
- Sherry’s take on Ramona from Real Housewives of New York City
- The parts of DIY we like the least
- Whether Sherry feels competitive with other bloggers
- How long it typically takes for a project to get posted
- Funny ways Clara is already behaving like a toddler

A few production notes from behind the scenes:
- Sherry was mortified to discover she leaned toward the camera the entire time. We only noticed it when we watched the finished recording, so consider this evidence of her natural fidgetiness.
- The lighting and focus shift near the end because the camera actually fell asleep and shut off. We did a second take for the ending—apparently our conversation was boring enough to put the camera to sleep. High five for endurance.
- Clara and Burger were napping during the main video, which is why they don’t show up. We did, however, record a short bonus Q&A featuring Clara (and a cameo from Burger) so you can see how she answers simple questions now that she can string words together. Her favorite-number investigation is nothing if not probing.
Overall, the video is almost 25 minutes of casual, candid conversation that focuses more on our lives than on decorating. It felt strange and fun to spend that much time away from DIY and design and instead let readers learn more about who we are off-camera. We hope you find it entertaining and maybe a little revealing.
