Now that we’re finishing up work on our current home and have finally shared the news about the new place, it feels like we’ve given ourselves permission to completely lose our minds with excitement. This new house video tour captures that chirpy, genuine enthusiasm—the kind you get when you find a home in your dream neighborhood. Bear with me; I’m a little over the top here. Watching the clip makes me realize I’m becoming my overly enthusiastic mom, which is equal parts embarrassing and oddly comforting.
There it is—the very first staircase we’ve ever owned, and the house that surrounds it. Even that small detail feels monumental. Walking through the rooms, imagining the renovations and the little moments we’ll create here, it’s impossible not to smile.
Some quick notes about the video and our plans:
- I’m trying to be poised at the start of the video—spoiler, I’m not awkward at all. Honest.
- We used John’s phone to add a date stamp to the video after a quick search for “today’s date” the day we filmed. Not high-tech, but it works for documenting the “before” stage.
- Fun challenge: make a drinking game out of the video—count how many times I say the word “love.”
- Keep an eye out for John’s finger or hand occasionally coming into frame. He’s holding the camera and directing me where to walk. If I’d held the camera, his descriptions would have been too brief and full of long pauses, and that wouldn’t have made for a great tour.
- Apologies for some inconsistent audio—empty rooms echo differently, and the upstairs bathroom fan is surprisingly loud on camera.
- I break into a brief song about the stairs. Yes, life is a musical right now.
- We’re beyond excited, and hopefully that energy comes through without being too much.
Please be patient with questions about our renovation plans and the ever-growing to-do list. We’re compiling everything and will publish a detailed floor plan post along with a comprehensive master to-do list once our ideas feel settled. Right now we’re still in the switching-and-reassessing stage—changing our minds frequently is part of the process—but we’ll get a clear plan up as soon as possible.
Because we still live in our current home while preparing it for sale, packing up, and coordinating the move, it may be a little while before we’re fully living in the new place and sharing finished projects. Between listing the old house and organizing all the logistics of moving, we’ve got a lot on our plates. That said, we’ll be sharing updates on progress, design choices, and renovation timelines as we go.
