Even before I had a positive pregnancy test, I found myself scrolling through BabyCenter for articles about early pregnancy signs. The minute a stick confirmed I was expecting, John and I logged on to figure out when our baby would be due. I also signed up for weekly emails tracking our baby’s growth—emails I would read aloud to John when they arrived—and I joined a message board to chat with other moms expecting babies in May.
After Clara arrived, the emails continued, now describing her development after birth. I still read those updates out loud to John. I also drop into the May message board from time to time to see what milestones other babies are hitting and how moms of two-month-olds are handling new challenges.
So you can imagine how excited I was when an email arrived from the folks at BabyCenter asking if John and I would like to contribute a column about baby-friendly home topics—things like toy organization, displaying kids’ art, and decor that works for toddlers. I essentially lost it, did a happy dance, and earned looks of amused disbelief from Clara and John while our dog Burger skulked away. Clara’s expression was pure toddler confusion, and Burger looked as if he’d seen a ghost.
That message appeared just a few weeks ago, and already our very first column is live on BabyCenter. We’re thrilled to be sharing baby-focused home ideas there, and we hope that anyone who’s interested will stop by to read our posts. Many of our readers know us for home improvement and decor content, so we’ve intentionally kept baby-related posts here on YHL to a few occasional updates. People have suggested a baby-focused spin-off blog since Clara was born, but we don’t have time to run a separate site. Contributing a weekly column on BabyCenter is a great solution: it lets us share practical, creative ideas for families without disrupting our regular content here.
Today’s inaugural post is a simple introduction—just a hello and a taste of what’s to come—but we already have a long list of kid-friendly projects and smart solutions to share in the coming weeks. Our ideas range from hands-on tutorials to quick tips and clever ways to adapt projects for adults, teens, and tweens. Many of the projects also make thoughtful gifts for nieces, nephews, or family friends.
