We’re in the middle of a big move right now. Boxes are everywhere, furniture is in flux, and our schedule is a little uncertain — we don’t yet know exactly when we’ll be able to check in with updates. The closing time for this afternoon could still shift, and there’s a chance the final move could slide to Tuesday. Despite the uncertainty, we’re pressing on and will share photos and details as soon as we can get a moment and reliable internet access.
For now, we’re hoping everything — especially the fragile bits of our home that mean a lot to us — makes the trip intact. Among the items we’re most nervous about are our ceramic animal collection. Those little pieces have been perched on shelves for years, and we’ve wrapped them tight with plenty of bubble wrap and paper. Fingers crossed they arrive at the new house in one piece. Beyond the breakables, we’re also focusing on the practical parts of moving day: coordinating the movers, double-checking the address details, keeping an eye on timing, and making sure pets and plants are safe and accounted for.
Once we’re settled enough to use a camera, we plan to do a few different things to bring you along for the transition. First, we’ll post photos of our current place emptied out. It feels important to mark the moment when we close the door on our first home — not just for us, but for anyone who has followed along on this journey. Those empty-house shots offer a kind of closure, a clear before-and-after that helps make the move feel real.
After that, we’ll share images and a short video tour of the new house while it’s still empty and ready for us to make our own. The “Petersik-ready” version of the new space will show the blank canvas: clean floors, empty rooms, and the possibilities that come with a fresh start. We’ll highlight the layout, natural light, and the little features that first attracted us to the place. Expect close-ups of corners that we already have ideas for, and wider shots that capture the flow from room to room.
Between packing and unpacking, we’ll also document some of the practical steps and small victories: labeling systems that actually work, the quickest way to secure delicate items, and what ended up in the essentials box for the first night. We’ve learned over the years that a few well-packed essentials — chargers, a couple of sets of bedding, basic kitchen tools, and toiletries — make those initial hours in a new house far less chaotic.
Emotions are part of this. Moving brings a blend of excitement, stress, and a bit of nostalgia. There will probably be a few tears, especially when we close the door on rooms filled with memories. There will also be laughter and the kind of exhausted glee that comes from accomplishing something big together. That mix of feelings is all part of the adventure, and we’re embracing it: the chaos, the joy, the small triumphs, and the fresh possibilities.
