You read that correctly: our blog name is changing. While it wasn’t our choice (legal pressure pushed the issue), the change has turned into an unexpected opportunity and a fresh start for us.
We’ve already turned lemons into lemonade. The content, voice, and community you’ve come to expect will remain the same, but we’ve adopted a new name and URL. From now on, please visit younghouselove.com and update your bookmarks, feeds, and any blogroll links you maintain.
Here’s what happened: on July 8th, right after celebrating our two-year wedding anniversary, we received a cease-and-desist letter from a well-known home-improvement company whose name resembles our former URL. They claimed there was potential consumer confusion and demanded we stop using our old name and web address. To be honest, we were blindsided — in nearly two years no one had ever suggested we were affiliated with that company.
The letter set off a wave of emotions: fear about losing the work we’d poured so much into, frustration that a company who had previously complimented our blog was now taking legal action, and disbelief that our small, personal blog could be mistaken for a large corporate brand. Our site, logo, tone, and projects were different; we’re two individuals sharing our home-improvement adventures, not a large media machine. Still, after consulting with an attorney, we concluded that fighting a protracted legal battle against a major industry player wasn’t the right move for our little two-person blog.
So we made a deliberate choice to move forward: change our name and URL, protect our community, and focus on what matters most—sharing projects, inspiration, and practical how-tos. Once we accepted that, the whole process felt less like a loss and more like a creative challenge.
Deciding on a new name was fun. We brainstormed playful and meaningful options that reflected who we are and what this blog represents: a love of home, hands-on projects, and the joy of making a house a home. The name we settled on felt like a natural fit and kept the spirit of our original identity while giving us fresh footing. We registered the new domain, set up the site, and now welcome you to our revamped online home: Young House Love.
Although the name is different, our content isn’t changing. Expect the same mix of honest storytelling, practical tutorials, before-and-after transformations, budget-friendly ideas, and a few giveaways thrown in for fun. We’re still unpacking and finalizing some details behind the scenes, but we’ll be back to our regular cadence soon with new posts, step-by-step guides, and plenty of photos of projects in progress.
