As part of our annual tradition, we’re sharing Young House Love by the numbers: a clear, numerical snapshot of the past year on the blog and in our home. Some of these figures are surprising, some are silly, and some are plain impressive. We’ve included last year’s stats where useful for context so you can see how things have grown. For historical perspective, our previous by-the-numbers posts from 2010, 2009 and 2008 are available for anyone who wants to trace the evolution of the blog.
Blog and audience
2,014 – Total published posts on Young House Love to date (up from 1,527 last year). We’ve been steadily adding tutorials, updates and stories about projects, renovations and family life.
16 – Posts published on Young House Life so far this year. Clearly that site could use more attention — and someone to help keep it humming.
570,314 – Total comments left by readers. That’s more than double last year’s 258,904 and shows just how active and engaged this community has become.
38,754 – Comment replies we posted, which is more than triple last year’s total of 13,039. We read and respond as much as we can because the conversation matters.
210,460 – Most page views in a single day, the spike that followed our Washington Post feature (last year’s top day was 97,024). Big media moments still create huge traffic, but everyday engagement has also grown.
4,048,011 – Page views last month alone (compared with 2,144,976 the previous year), reflecting steady monthly growth.
68,164,565 – Total blog hits since we started (nearly double last year’s 36,698,957).
Content and production
35 – Average number of posts per month. That includes project tutorials, mood boards, updates and design resources.
2,405 – Average words written per post. We tend to be thorough, aiming to give context, steps and helpful tips on every project.
19,204 – Average number of words written per week across all posts and updates. It’s a lot of writing, but it helps us share detailed guidance and stories.
648 – Projects listed on our Projects page, with about 50 more to add when time allows. That archive is a great place to search for project inspiration and instructions.
150 – Mood boards featured in our Mood Board Gallery, offering design inspiration for rooms, color palettes and styles.
146 – Weekly giveaways held since we started them in late 2008. Readers requested giveaways during our first blogiversary and they’ve been a regular feature ever since.
Social and visual
230,652 – Pinterest followers. This number keeps growing and shows how much readers like collecting visual inspiration from our projects and ideas.
58 – Photos of Clara taken for her weekly and monthly photo project (52 weekly photos, 5 monthly photos and one birthday picture).
Home life
9 – Months we’ve lived in our new house. Moving and settling in has filled our to-do list with new projects and updates to share.
4 – Times we’ve driven by our old house to check on it, including once after Hurricane Irene (all fine).
1 – Accidental turn back onto our old street when we meant to go to the new house. Considering the two addresses are only a mile apart, we’ll call that progress.
22 – Steps from our bed to our desk in the new house (compared to 7 in the old house), which means fewer risks of posting in our sleep.
6:30 – Tonight we’ll take part in a local panel titled “Hobby to Business: Making a Living Doing What You Love.” We’re not being paid, but we’re excited to share our experience with others during blogiversary week.
Family and pets
21.5 – Clara’s weight in pounds. She’s grown a lot since last year when she weighed 14 pounds — tall and skinny, like a string bean.
12 – The number of animal sounds Clara can imitate: cow, horse, sheep, goat, cat, dog, owl, chicken, lion, duck, monkey and a sloth-inspired “slowly slowly.” She’s endlessly entertaining and keeps us smiling during projects.
8.5 – Burger’s weight in pounds. He’s gained a pound since last year and remains a loyal and fluffy project supervisor.
3 – Soda-themed shirts John owns. Yes, he wears other shirts too, but the soda ones show up in photos more than you’d expect.
Final thoughts
There you have it: the stats, milestones and little details that marked our year. From massive traffic spikes to everyday moments like measuring steps between rooms, these numbers tell the story of a blog that keeps growing and a family that keeps doing projects, learning and sharing along the way.
