A few months ago HomeGoods moved a little closer to our house, so naturally we celebrated. The nearest store used to be in Short Pump, about twenty-five minutes away, but a new HomeGoods opened right in Chesterfield Towne Center—only eight minutes from our door. Score. We grabbed the camera and wandered the aisles, snapping photos of anything that caught our eye, just like we sometimes do on trips to Target, Ikea, or the other HomeGoods nearby. Here’s a virtual shopping tour of what we found.
One of the first pieces that stopped me was a cheerful turquoise bench priced at $150. It had bright, happy energy and caught my eye from across the floor. My partner’s iron horse decor even seemed to approve—only at HomeGoods would you find a giant iron horse inspecting a garden bench.
Nearby, a pair of small ottomans in a lively “grellow” tone were $80 each. They featured removable tops, making them both stylish and functional. In a neutral room they would work perfectly in place of a coffee table to add a pop of color and some unexpected texture.
I regretfully left without a set of faceted white bowls—small ones were $3 and larger ones $8. Their gemstone-like shape was beautiful and unique; I should’ve grabbed them when I had the chance.
One aisle marker labeled “Library Decor” made us laugh; the concept of stocking faux books and a magnifying glass in a library section felt intentionally kitschy and charming. It’s those little touches that make browsing fun.
Pillows were everywhere. I loved a mauve velvet-and-linen pillow priced at $35 and a striped velvet cushion for $30 that made me want to redesign an entire corner of the house. I almost bought another pillow for $24 but decided to pause—I admit I have a bit of a pillow habit and promised myself a break. Still, pillows are hard to resist when they look that good.
I did bring one thing home: a large metallic bronzy-brown planter for $22. It’s generously sized with a lot of sculptural texture from wavy ridges along the sides. I haven’t found its final spot yet, but it will work as a planter or even as stylish storage for rolled wrapping paper or magazines in a gift-wrapping corner.
We also had fun posing with oversized props, like a giant watering can, and enjoyed having our daughter along. She carried her little yellow “Eggy”—an Easter toy—and was content while we photographed. It’s always sweeter to shop with her; she makes the experience feel playful and lighthearted.
In addition to the planter, we bought two Ralph Lauren pillows for $19 each to replace our tired bedroom cushions. Our old pillows were flat and more than five years old, so the update felt like a small but meaningful refresh.
John wandered into the pet aisle and found a few novelty items, including a wearable cat carrier and an “I heart my cat” mug that made us laugh. The carrier’s box read “no pet left behind,” which cracked us up; we later learned these carriers are designed for emergency evacuations and now appreciate their purpose—safety first.
A bright yellow lantern for $17 caught my eye as a cheerful accent that would brighten a mantel, console, or armoire. We both admired an industrial-rustic Hooker table that was marked down to $299 from $699. While it was still out of our price range, it was inspiring and one day might influence a DIY version.
Other finds included a mirrored table for $70 that felt glamorous and similar to much pricier pieces, a $49 lamp with a textured metallic base and clean white drum shade, and an oversized botanical canvas for $29 that would work well in humid rooms like bathrooms where framed prints might suffer.
A large capiz mirror for $129 stood out as a statement piece that could define a fireplace mantel or entry console. There was also a $129 chair that felt perfect for a cozy desk nook, and a Moroccan-inspired black pouf for $80 that would add texture and a bit of exotic flair to a living space—or even a nursery where soft, squishy furnishings are ideal.
