Life has become busier than ever, and having a baby has made our priorities crystal clear. Lately we’ve been asking ourselves: what are we really trying to accomplish? What do we want our time to buy us? The answer isn’t more page views, traffic, or approval. In fact, the idea of growing the blog further makes both of us uneasy. We miss the earlier days when we worked less, slept more, and spent more uninterrupted time with family and friends. This little site has already exceeded every expectation we had, so we’ve been asking: what are we chasing?
When Clara was born we were blogging full time, but our traffic was only about a third of what it is now. Back then we usually shared a single project each week along with home updates, family stories, polls, and reader makeovers. It felt manageable and joyful. We did less and were content. With a new baby boy, a daughter who is growing up far too quickly, and so much on our plates, we’ve decided to move back toward that simpler rhythm.
We realize that choosing to slow down will likely mean fewer page views and less income, and we’re okay with that. It’s a little scary to step away from momentum and not know exactly where we’ll be in a few months or years, but uncertainty has always been part of our professional lives as bloggers. We’ve made risky choices before for the sake of quality of life—leaving the NYC rat race and trading steady paychecks for the chance to write and create full time were some of the best decisions we’ve made.
We’ve planned financially for this shift and saved enough to sleep at night. We’ve also left the door open to return to freelance work in our previous fields if needed—work I did before blogging and work John has taken on at times. That flexibility makes this recalibration feel responsible rather than reckless. We’re willing to trade a bit of growth for more family time, better balance, and a slower pace.
Our love of home improvement and storytelling remains as strong as ever, and our project list is still a mile long. We don’t plan to stop blogging. We’ll continue sharing projects, plans, shopping finds, and the usual home-and-family content, but you’ll notice the pace change. We expect to publish around three to five posts per week instead of the faster cadence we kept lately.
We’ll also consolidate family-focused content back onto our main site, where personal stories have always lived. Some of our favorite and most-read posts have been about parenting topics, birth stories, creative projects, and the small, funny details of daily life. Instagram will remain a place for quick family updates, while longer reflections, parenting posts, and home projects will appear on the blog. Because of that decision, we won’t be posting on the separate site we had been using for family updates.
We know reactions will vary: some readers have encouraged us to slow down and will be relieved to see a more relaxed publishing rhythm; others might tune out, and that’s okay too. This is a choice we feel lucky to make. It’s not one taken lightly. Teddy is our last baby and Clara will be starting kindergarten before we know it, so we want to be present for these moments instead of spending nights, weekends, and vacations chasing business goals that don’t match our values.
We don’t know what the future holds, and that’s part of the adventure. Even if everything changed tomorrow, we’re incredibly grateful for the unexpected journey this blog has given us—the people we’ve met, the opportunities we never imagined, and the creative life it’s helped us build. We still have big plans for our house and plenty of projects we can’t wait to share. For now, though, we’re choosing balance: more family time, thoughtful projects, and a slower, more sustainable pace.
If you stick around, you’ll find the same honest home improvement tips, family stories, and design ideas—just fewer, more focused posts. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have a very small diaper to change and John is off to buy lumber for the next project.
