As bloggers, we spend a lot of time answering questions — especially when they involve painting cabinets, upholstering headboards, or hanging art. This week, though, during our blogiversary celebration, we wanted to do something a little different: take a break from project how-tos and tackle more personal questions. Inspired by other bloggers who’ve opened themselves up to reader Q&A, we invited our audience on Facebook and Twitter to ask us anything — specifically encouraging questions that weren’t about home improvement or the blog.
The response was fantastic and varied. People asked the predictable things (“will you two just have a baby already?” “have you been approached for a TV show?”), as well as some surprising or lighthearted ones (“do you ever swear?” “who is the messy one?”). The range of questions sparked a lot of fun conversation between us, and we enjoyed the chance to share a bit more about ourselves beyond paint colors and power tools.
Because there were so many great questions, we split the answers into two video segments. Below you’ll find Part 1 of “Getting to Know the Real Petersiks,” where we respond to a mix of sincere, silly, and revealing questions from readers. We cover favorites, quirks, behind-the-scenes details, and some of the smaller moments that don’t usually make it into a typical project post. We ended up with so many questions that a third video is certainly possible, especially if readers keep the conversation going. We’re naturally talkative when we get rolling, and this format gave us an easy way to be a bit more candid and personal than usual.
We tried to keep the tone relaxed and honest throughout the video. There are a few lighthearted moments where we laugh at ourselves, alongside some moments that felt more reflective. Readers often tell us they appreciate when we show the real sides of life behind the projects — the small messes, the debates over design choices, the real-time reactions to surprises — and this Q&A felt like an extension of that ongoing conversation.

We’re always open to hearing what you want to know, whether it’s about our routines, our pet peeves, or the stories behind a particular decision in our home.
