Budget Living Room Makeover: Before and After
We’re back with a fresh, fabulous living room makeover that cost next to nothing. Here’s a note from Kelli about the transformation and how she converted a dark, dated space into a bright, welcoming room on a tight budget.
I have a before and after for you! My husband and I sold our house a couple of months ago without another place lined up. Fortunately, his grandmother had an empty apartment above her house where we could stay rent-free. The apartment hadn’t been rented for several years and the living room was very dark.
Our first step was to paint the dark paneling to make the room feel more homey. We used Glidden’s White Fog after seeing pale blue tones featured on several mood boards you’d shared recently. My mother-in-law, who is very creative, was inspired by the large leaf mural Jenn (from Design Star) painted on a TV show episode set in an airplane hangar. That idea provided the perfect starting point for this blank canvas.
Everything was done on a strict budget, with furnishings and accents sourced from Old Time Pottery, Target, TJ Maxx, and JC Penney. We’re thrilled with the result and hope you like it too! – Kelli
