Quick—try to guess what had us drilling into our bedroom wall late last night.

If you remember the lovely ZGallerie sconces I mentioned for my birthday back in March, they’ve been popping up all over the house in my mind because they look great in every room. I originally tried them in the guest bedroom to see how they’d work there, but we eventually moved them into the master bedroom so we could enjoy them more often. They ended up complementing our blue and white duvet perfectly—turns out these sconces are much more versatile than we expected.

We decided on a staggered placement for the sconces—John had the idea—and I love how the mirrors catch and scatter the candlelight. The staggered arrangement gives the wall more movement and creates a soft, layered feel that complements the rest of our bedroom decor.

So what prompted the late-night drilling session? A belated birthday surprise from the ZGallerie team. We were completely shocked—and delighted—when a package arrived containing a third matching sconce and a sweet note saying, “We love your site. We thought you needed one more sconce for your bedroom. Happy birthday!” It was such a thoughtful gesture, and it made the trio feel even more special.

We already liked ZGallerie for a bunch of other pieces we own, but receiving this unexpected gift made us fans in a new way. The additional sconce rounds out the grouping and gives the arrangement a more balanced look. We’re grateful for the kindness from the brand and thrilled to have another gorgeous accent in our bedroom.

Since adding and hanging heavier decorative items can be intimidating—especially ones that will hold candles—I thought I’d share a few practical, easy-to-follow hanging tips that have worked well for us. These will help keep your pieces secure and looking their best for years.
1. Step back and check placement
Have someone hold the piece while you step back and evaluate its relationship to other elements in the room. This simple habit prevents common mistakes like hanging something too high, too low, or too far to one side.
2. Use anchors and proper screws
For heavier wall items, plastic anchors and sturdy screws make a big difference. Drill a pilot hole slightly smaller than the anchor, tap the anchor into the wall until it’s flush, then insert the screw so a short portion remains exposed for hanging. This provides a secure, long-lasting mount.
3. Align vertically with a string
When you need two items vertically aligned, use a length of string with a small weight on the end. Secure the top anchor first, tie the string to it so it hangs straight, and mark the spot directly below where the string falls for the lower anchor. This method is more reliable than holding a ruler or level, which can easily tilt a degree or two and leave items off-kilter.
I hope these tips make hanging heavier decor less stressful. A few careful steps will save time and frustration while keeping your walls looking polished and intentional.

Huge thanks again to the team at ZGallerie for the thoughtful birthday surprise and for creating such beautiful pieces that blend easily with a variety of styles. We’re excited to continue styling our home with items that feel both elegant and personal.
