Spring has arrived, evident in our blooming azaleas and the predictable surge of my seasonal allergies. With the brighter days and warmer light, I decided it was the perfect time to give the side tables in our sunroom a quick, fresh makeover. A few small changes can bring a room to life, and these simple swaps made the space feel lighter and more seasonally appropriate.
Above is one of the side tables before the refresh. It was perfectly functional but a little heavy for the sunny, springtime feel I wanted. To create a lighter, more cheerful look, I swapped out a few items for pieces that add color, texture, and a breezy, coastal vibe. One small element — the sea fan — came home with us from a recent trip to the islands, and it instantly introduces an organic, sculptural touch.
The result is a more cheerful, spring-ready vignette. A simple glass sits on a set of striped coasters — a thoughtful gift from John’s sister — and the overall effect feels light, curated, and welcoming. Small accessories like these can be surprisingly effective at signaling a seasonal shift in your space without a major overhaul.
On the other side of the sunroom I tackled the matching table. Before the change it looked functional but uninspired. I wanted to introduce color and playfulness while making use of items we already owned.
For the updated look, I gathered a selection of old wine bottles, a few glass vases, and even an old blue soap dispenser (sans pump) and arranged them together on a tray. Grouping similar items creates impact: when sunlight pours through the window they become like three-dimensional stained glass, casting color and warmth across the tabletop. I finished the arrangement with a couple of starfish for a subtle coastal accent that keeps the composition interesting and cohesive.
One of my favorite little details is an unexpected starfish-cork tucked among the bottles — an easy, whimsical touch that gives the vignette personality. It’s a reminder that decor doesn’t need to be complicated to be charming.
Variety truly is the spice of life. While we love a crisp white accessory (or ten), adding touches of color and texture is what complements the season’s blooms and bright light.
