The annual Color of the Year announcements are arriving unusually early once again. Before we could publish our official predictions, several brands had already revealed their picks. After the first announcement we made quick guesses, and within 48 hours two more companies published their selections—bringing the total to five so far. As we did for past years, we’ll update this post whenever a new Color of the Year is revealed so you can see all the major picks in one place.
While forecasting color trends is serious business for these companies, we mostly enjoy the guessing game and the reactions that follow. Last year’s Pantone announcement sparked plenty of strong opinions. Scroll to the bottom to see our predictions for this year.
What is the 2027 Color of the Year?
Each year, most major paint and color brands name a “Color of the Year” to represent current or emerging design tendencies. There isn’t a single universal Color of the Year; instead, brands such as Benjamin Moore, Sherwin-Williams, Behr, and others offer their own choices and sometimes full palettes or collections. These picks reflect broader cultural moods, suggest how to use trending hues in the home, and of course serve as marketing highlights for the brands.
What Were Last Year’s Colors?
Below is a snapshot of the last three years’ Color of the Year selections. Viewing them together helps highlight shifts in taste and tone—2025 leaned darker and moodier than 2024, with deep browns and purples, while 2026 offered more variety but still favored muted, neutral tones.
Seeing these colors side by side gives context for current selections and hints at where trends may head next.
Every 2027 Color of the Year
We’re tracking a dozen-plus brands this year and will add entries as more announce their choices. As of September 16, 2026, six brands have revealed their 2027 Color of the Year. We’ll continue updating this list as new picks are announced.

Note: HGTV Home mirrored the selection by its parent brand Sherwin-Williams again this year, so it did not name a separate color.
Below is a closer look at each announced color and the context behind the choice.
Sherwin-Williams’ 2027 Color of the Year
Sherwin-Williams named Celery its 2027 Color of the Year. This herbal green is one of the bolder selections so far, standing out among several earthier, muted choices. In announcing Celery, Sherwin-Williams emphasized a desire for calm, restoration, and connection—themes that echo this season’s broader focus on serenity and nature-inspired palettes.
HGTV Home also adopted Celery this year, underscoring the color’s appeal and the trend toward greens that feel fresh yet grounded.
Behr’s 2027 Color of the Year
Behr revealed Grounded on August 26. Described as a mossy olive with brown undertones, Grounded aims to create intimate, restorative rooms—“personal sanctuaries” that invite a deeper exhale. The language mirrors themes used by other brands this year and follows Dutch Boy’s recent Earth-focused choice.
Grounded marks the fourth consecutive year Behr has chosen a deeper, more saturated color, reflecting an ongoing preference for cozy, moody interiors.
Glidden’s 2027 Color of the Year
Glidden selected Artifact, a smoky blue, for 2027. This hue is understated and classic—calming and colorful without being aggressive. Glidden framed the choice as part of a shift toward colors that feel welcoming, personal, and timeless, which aligns with the quieter, more considered trends we’re seeing in interiors.
Artifact follows several years of bolder Glidden picks, suggesting a gentle return to cool, approachable blues and greens.
Valspar’s 2027 Color of the Year
Valspar opened this season’s announcements with Cottage Door, a steely blue it calls “trans-seasonal.” The brand positions this hue for thoughtful, introspective spaces and suggests pairing it with creamy pinks, warm grays, natural textures, and playful patterns. Valspar’s picks have consistently favored blue tones over the last few years, and Cottage Door continues that pattern with a reliable, versatile shade.
This marks Valspar’s fourth annual Color of the Year selection. Their steady preference for blue suggests they favor calming, dependable hues that work across styles and seasons.
Dutch Boy’s 2027 Color of the Year
Dutch Boy announced Deep Rooted, an earthy orange, as its 2027 Color of the Year. The name and color reflect a trend toward grounding, authenticity, and connection—again echoing the themes other brands have cited this season. Dutch Boy’s past selections show a variety of tones, but they often favor saturated colors with a muted or “muddied” quality that suits interiors well.
Deep Rooted reinforces the seasonal shift toward earth-based palettes and comforting, tactile color choices.
Graham & Brown’s 2027 Color of the Year
Graham & Brown named Rose Earth as part of its 2027 Design of the Year lineup. As a wallcoverings company, they paired this warm neutral with a coordinating wallpaper pattern and a mural. Inspired by Italian clay, Rose Earth is yet another hue this season that references earth, ground, and roots—underscoring a collective move toward warm, natural tones in 2027.
This is Graham & Brown’s third year in a row selecting a warm, brown-toned color. It will be interesting to see whether they continue down this path or return to brighter, more vibrant choices in future years.
Our 2027 Color of the Year Predictions
Every year we each pick three colors we expect to see among the official choices. It’s a lighthearted tradition and a chance to root for more vivid, playful hues. I saw Valspar’s announcement before making my selections, but my co-host made her picks completely blind to keep things fair.
