We don’t yet know exactly what our future living room will look like, but here are the ideas and pieces I’m currently loving and planning around. These choices lean toward a modern, comfortable, and slightly eclectic space that balances durable, practical pieces with a few bold accents to keep the room feeling lively.
- Soft gray walls — I’m picturing a warm, soft gray such as Benjamin Moore’s Light Pewter paired with crisp, glossy white trim. Gray walls create a neutral backdrop that feels modern yet cozy, and the glossy white trim helps frame windows and doors cleanly while reflecting light to keep the room from feeling too dark.
- Large, comfy sectional — A huge, relaxed sectional is high on the list, ideally with washable covers for stress-free maintenance. I’m drawn to a gray-brown tone that reads neutral but has warmth. A roomy sectional defines the seating area for family time and entertaining, and choosing a durable fabric with removable, washable covers is a practical investment for long-term comfort and easy cleaning.
- Woven round ottomans — I love the idea of a pair of woven round ottomans that can be rearranged as needed. They add casual texture, and because they’re lightweight, they double as extra seating or impromptu side tables with a tray on top. Natural fibers in an earthy tone will contrast nicely against the sleek lines of the sectional and provide a touch of organic warmth.
- Sleek, high-gloss TV stand — For the media area, a sleek TV stand in a high-gloss gray finish appeals to me. In a room large enough to host a substantial sectional, the furniture scale needs to match, so a slightly larger, streamlined stand will balance the space.
