We finally hung things on the walls in our daughter’s room. It might sound minor, but after moving into the new house we hadn’t hung a single thing—just a wreath on the back of the living room fireplace for Christmas. For the past month we were picture-hanging beginners, but that all changed when we drilled about 34 holes in Clara’s room. Now the nursery finally feels like a finished space, so we snapped some photos to show the updated look.
The main change from her old nursery is the wall color: a soft pink with subtle gray and purple undertones. The rest of the room still uses many of the same furnishings and accessories we loved before. We like to work with what we have, and since her first nursery was a favorite room, we kept the overall vibe similar while making small tweaks that fit this house.
One practical priority was baby-proofing. Although the crib mattress will be lowered significantly when Clara starts pulling up, we wanted to be sure nothing heavy could be pulled down from the walls. That includes the large green mirror we hung above the dresser. After mounting the mirror with a heavy-duty wall anchor, we took precautions a step further and drove two long screws through holes at the bottom of the frame so the mirror is secured directly to the wall. Those screws are anchored solidly and we even painted the screw heads to match the green finish so they blend into the ornate frame. The mirror is now as safe as we can make it.
We’ve also been systematically adding outlet covers throughout the house and have only a few left to install. The curtains in the nursery were designed with safety in mind: they’re hung on ring clips so if Clara ends up swinging on them, the fabric can slip out of the clip without bringing the entire rod down. That prevents the rod and rings from crashing if a little adventurer decides to climb the window.
The closet in Clara’s room has quickly become my favorite spot. It’s surprisingly roomy and I picture it as a cozy nook for her to curl up with books on a beanbag when she’s a bit older. For now it helps keep toys and wardrobe organized and gives the room a sense of structure that grows with her.
Hanging artwork and accessories made a surprisingly big difference. The room feels warmer and more intentional now that the walls aren’t empty. We kept the layout familiar because it worked well in our previous home, but the new paint and a few updated pieces give the space its own personality. We expect the room will continue to evolve as Clara grows, but right now it strikes a nice balance between comfort and style.
Of course, the best affirmation that the room feels right came from Clara herself. She’s already enjoying the space and giving plenty of reactions to her new setup—especially to her blocks and the areas where she can explore safely. Those little moments reinforce why we take the extra time to secure things properly and maintain a child-friendly environment.
