Oh happy day! We’re excited to share another design makeover that turned a cluttered den into a calm, modern TV room. A few months ago Corinne and her husband Keith asked for help transforming their multipurpose, overstuffed room into a minimalist, stylish space focused on comfort and function. They had started the process with another designer but, when the budget tightened, they asked us to finish the job and bring the vision to life. The result is a refreshed, contemporary lounge that blends simplicity with warmth.

To orient you, think of the space as a blank canvas that previously struggled to serve too many purposes at once. The design goal was clear: create a minimalist, modern TV room that feels organized, comfortable, and welcoming. We simplified the layout, introduced clean lines, and added a few carefully chosen pieces and accents to create cohesion without clutter. The result showcases how intentional design choices — from lighting to textiles — can dramatically alter a room’s mood and functionality.
Before, the den felt busy and disconnected. After, the room reads as a cohesive living area with a clear focus on relaxation and entertainment. The new arrangement emphasizes open sightlines and easy traffic flow, creating a space that feels larger and more inviting. We pared down the number of furnishings, choosing pieces that are both functional and visually light. The minimalist approach allowed key elements to stand out, such as the statement light fixture and the carefully selected color accents.
One of the striking features of the redesign is the sculptural light fixture. It acts as a focal point and introduces a modern, artistic touch that elevates the entire room. Lighting was used not just for illumination but as a design element that helps define the space. Complementing the fixture are pops of orange throughout the room, which add energy and personality without overwhelming the calm, neutral foundation. These warm accents balance the cooler tones and lend a playful, contemporary edge.
Textiles were selected to enhance texture and comfort. The textured green rug grounds the seating area and ties together the color palette, while the curtains add softness and a sense of privacy. Mixing materials—textured fabrics, smooth finishes, and sculptural metalwork—created a layered, lived-in look that still feels deliberate and modern. This approach highlights how the right combination of textiles and finishes can transform a room from cluttered to curated.
The updated layout prioritizes viewing comfort and social interaction. Seating is arranged to promote conversation and provide optimal sightlines to the TV, while still maintaining room for movement. Thoughtful storage solutions and fewer accessories help keep surfaces clear and the room visually calm. Small, intentional details—like well-placed accent pillows and a tidy side table—complete the space without adding clutter.
We love how Keith and Corinne embraced the design direction and implemented the changes. Their after photos show a space that feels bright, modern, and cheerful—proof that a few strategic updates can make a dramatic difference. It’s rewarding to see how a room packed with mismatched, older furniture can become an inviting, cohesive lounge with careful editing and a focus on form and function.
