Master Bedroom Makeover: Erin’s Cozy Coral Accent

When Erin shared the before-and-after photos of her master bedroom, we were excited to showcase the results. Her thoughtful updates turned an underused room into a warm, comfortable retreat. Below is Erin’s own note about the process and the choices that shaped the space.

We were looking to redo our master bedroom to make it more comfy and cozy. First we removed the carpets and put in our furniture and blinds and left it alone for a while… not really knowing where to go from there. Then, I fell in LOVE with the coral slipper chair you found from Target and decided to design the room around that. Hope you enjoy the pictures, we love just laying in bed and reading now. We’re still looking to add a few things to the wall but just love the simple look of it even without the added art. Enjoy! – Erin

Erin’s project is a great example of how a few well-chosen changes can dramatically improve a room. The transformation started with removing the old carpeting to reveal the original wood floors. Those floors now anchor the design with a natural, warm foundation that reads as both classic and contemporary. Covering wood with carpeting is a common choice, but uncovering and refinishing wood can instantly elevate the entire feel of a space.

From there, Erin assembled the core pieces—bed, bedside tables, and window treatments—then paused to consider a focal point. The coral slipper chair provided that spark. Choosing one standout piece as the starting point can simplify decisions about color, textiles, and accessories. In this case, the coral hue guides the palette while allowing the rest of the room to remain understated and serene.

The result is a cozy, layered room that invites relaxation. Erin mentions that she and her partner love lying in bed and reading—an ideal indicator that the room is functioning as intended. Small investments, like a comfortable chair and quality bedding, can make a substantial difference in daily comfort and enjoyment.

There are still a few finishing touches Erin plans to add, such as wall art or personal accents, but the pared-back aesthetic is already effective. A minimal approach like this keeps the space calm and uncluttered, while thoughtful additions—framed photos, a mirror, or a statement print—can be introduced later without overwhelming the existing scheme.

Styling tips inspired by this makeover:

  • Use a single, bold accent piece to define the room’s color direction.
  • Reveal and restore original architectural features when possible; wood floors often repay the effort with instant character.
  • Start with essential furniture, live with the arrangement, and then layer accessories—this prevents rushed or regrettable choices.
  • Keep bedside essentials simple to maintain a restful atmosphere.

Thank you, Erin, for sharing your beautiful bedroom update. It shows how thoughtful, modest changes can create a welcoming space that’s both stylish and comfortable. Enjoy many relaxed evenings reading in your refreshed master bedroom!
