Step Into My Shoes: A Personal Journey

Have you ever wondered what a typical day in my life actually looks like? I know how easy it is to imagine a leisurely routine: sleeping in late, soaking in a long bubble bath, drafting a couple of blog posts, and sipping Earl Grey in a sunlit room while calling it a day. I wish that were the reality—sometimes I daydream about that slower pace—but the truth is quite different. My daily life is a mix of concentrated work, quick bursts of creativity, and constant juggling of tasks that keep the blog running.

It wasn’t until Camila invited me to contribute to her “In Her Shoes” feature on the High-Heeled Foot In The Door blog that I put my day into words and really examined how I spend my time. Writing down each part of my routine made me realize just how absorbed I get in the blogging process. I’m definitely a self-confessed blog nerd, and without strict boundaries I’ll happily lose hours staring at the screen trying to polish a single paragraph. If I’m honest, I need an alarm that yells, “Step away from the laptop!”

Most mornings start earlier than people expect. I like to get a head start on the day while the house is quiet. I check overnight messages, scan comments on recent posts, and handle any time-sensitive emails before I dive into writing or editing. That early window is my most focused time for drafting posts or planning the week’s content. By mid-morning I’m usually ready for a break: a quick walk, a simple breakfast, or a short household task to reset my energy.

Afternoons vary depending on the week’s priorities. Some days I’m photographing or editing images for upcoming posts—image quality matters for a blog’s visual identity and SEO—while other days are devoted to responding to readers, coordinating with collaborators, or managing social media. Balancing creative work with administrative duties is a constant challenge, and I’ve learned to block time for each type of task so nothing gets neglected.

One thing that surprises people is how many small decisions add up over the course of a day: choosing the right headline for search visibility, selecting keywords naturally within the text, and making sure images include proper alt text for accessibility and SEO. These details take time but are essential for helping new readers find the content and for making the site easier to navigate.

I also set aside time to read other blogs and follow industry news. It keeps me inspired and helps me stay current with trends. When I see an idea that resonates, I jot notes and later return to develop it into a post that fits my voice and audience. Creative work rarely happens in a single burst; it’s the accumulation of small moments and deliberate choices throughout the day.

Evenings are for winding down and reflecting. I step back from the computer to review what went well and what needs improvement. Sometimes I outline ideas for the next day or sketch a plan for a larger project. Other times I simply enjoy time with family, read a book, or indulge in that imagined afternoon of Earl Grey and relaxation—if only for a little while.

If you’re curious for a more detailed, moment-by-moment account, I shared a fuller “day in the life” on Camila’s “In Her Shoes” feature, which was a fun prompt to document my routine and to be honest about the less glamorous parts of blogging. Thanks to Camila for the opportunity—writing it down helped me see how much I care about the work, even when it gets hectic.
