Thankful Moments: Thanksgiving, Family, and a Baguette-Thieving Pup
We have countless things to be thankful for, and you—our readers and friends—are at the very top of that list. Thank you for taking the time to stop by and see what’s happening at our house. Your support, comments, and shared moments mean a lot to us, especially during this season of gratitude.
Speaking of what’s happening at our place, a little mischief recently unfolded that seemed perfectly timed for Thanksgiving storytelling. After we finished lunch but before the table was cleared, Burger decided to make his move. With the aid of a chair, he hopped up into the dining room and managed to snag half of an unattended baguette. It was an impressive piece of canine opportunism.
Realizing he’d likely be in trouble, Burger darted into the closet to devour his prize as quickly as possible. I followed him into the closet—partly to make sure he didn’t choke on the crust and partly to capture the moment with my phone. The photo shows him mid-feast with those unmistakable guilty eyes we all know so well. It’s the kind of scene that makes you laugh, shake your head, and immediately forgive him.
Moments like that are part of what makes holidays memorable: the small, unscripted incidents that become family lore. Whether it’s a mischievous pet, a dish that turns out surprisingly well, or a conversation that lasts late into the night, these details shape the warmth of our gatherings. They remind us that the best parts of the season are often spontaneous and imperfect.
This Thanksgiving, we hope you experience plenty of those unscripted, joyful moments. May your day be filled with loved ones, delicious food, and a comfortable sense of gratitude. If there’s a pet in your home, maybe keep an eye on the bread basket—some of them have learned the art of stealth rather well.
We’re grateful for the simple things: a warm house, a full table, and the people and animals who make our days brighter. Gratitude doesn’t require grand gestures; it grows in the everyday acts of kindness, laughter, and even the occasional shared misadventure. Taking a moment to appreciate those small gifts can make the holiday feel richer and more meaningful.
Before I sign off, a little aside for those who enjoy kid-centered milestones as much as pet antics: our household has been celebrating a few small victories lately, including Clara’s latest counting achievement. There’s a special kind of pride in watching children reach new milestones, and it adds another layer of joy to the season. No matter the milestone—big or small—these are the memories we’ll look back on fondly.
In closing, we hope your Thanksgiving is full of warmth and laughter, with just the right amount of chaos to keep things interesting. Eat well, spend time with people you love, and allow yourself a moment of quiet gratitude. And if a baguette goes missing in your home this holiday, consider it a story in the making.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours—may it be filled with family, food, gratitude, and zero guilt about indulging in the good stuff.
