The annual Color of the Year announcements are arriving earlier than ever. Before we could finalize our predictions, the first reveal dropped — and within 48 hours two more followed. At the moment there are five official picks, and this post will be updated as additional brands announce their 2027 selections. As in past years, we’re collecting every brand’s pick in one place so you can compare trends and see how color choices are shifting across the industry.
Color forecasting is a serious business for paint and design companies, but we mostly enjoy the guessing game and the public reactions. Last year’s Pantone pick sparked a lot of debate, and that kind of conversation is part of the fun. Scroll to the bottom to see our own predictions for 2027.
What is the 2027 Color of the Year?
Each year, major paint and color brands announce a Color of the Year intended to reflect design trends and cultural moods. Rather than a single, industry-wide choice, multiple brands — including Benjamin Moore, Sherwin‑Williams, and Pantone — present their own selections. Some companies also release complementary palettes or trend collections. These picks offer design guidance, capture what brands see as influential directions, and serve as marketing highlights for each company.
What Were Last Year’s Colors?
Below is a snapshot of the last three years of Color of the Year selections. Viewing them together highlights broader shifts: 2025 tended toward darker, muted tones like deep browns and purples, while 2026 offered more variety but remained fairly restrained and neutral overall.
Comparing these previous picks can help predict whether 2027 will continue toward muted, earthy palettes or swing back to brighter, more saturated colors.
Every 2027 Color of the Year
We track multiple brands’ picks each season. As of September 16, 2026, six brands have announced a 2027 Color of the Year. We’ll update this list as more brands announce their selections.
- Sherwin‑Williams: Celery

Note: HGTV Home has aligned with Sherwin‑Williams for the second year in a row and did not name a separate color.
Below is a closer look at each announced color, including the character of the hue and what the brand says inspired its choice.
Sherwin‑Williams’ 2027 Color of the Year
Sherwin‑Williams named Celery its 2027 Color of the Year. This herbal green is one of the bolder choices announced so far and marks a relatively adventurous pick for the brand. Sherwin‑Williams frames Celery around themes of calm, restoration, and a growing desire for serenity and connection in living spaces.
HGTV Home by Sherwin‑Williams also adopted Celery, continuing its alignment with the parent brand rather than issuing a separate pick.
Behr’s 2027 Color of the Year
Behr announced Grounded on August 26. Described as a mossy olive with brown undertones, Grounded aims to create comforting, sanctuary‑like rooms and encourages a sense of release and calm. The description echoes themes used by other brands this season, emphasizing grounding and a connection to nature.
Grounded marks the fourth consecutive year Behr has chosen a darker, saturated hue, reflecting an ongoing interest in cozy, moody interiors.
Glidden’s 2027 Color of the Year
Glidden chose Artifact, a smoky blue that sits comfortably between classic and contemporary. Artifact’s muted intensity makes it a safe, versatile choice suited to many interiors. Glidden describes the color as part of a trend toward hues that feel welcoming, personal, and timeless.
After a few years of more experimental choices, Artifact suggests Glidden may be returning to reliably calming blues and greens.
Valspar’s 2027 Color of the Year
Valspar launched this year’s announcements with Cottage Door, a steely blue described as “trans‑seasonal” and ideal for thoughtful, introspective spaces. Valspar positions Cottage Door as part of a movement toward intentional living, suggesting pairings with creamy pinks, warm grays, natural textures, and playful patterns.
Valspar’s choices over the past four years show a clear affinity for blue tones. Their picks are steady and dependable, and it will be interesting to see whether they follow familiar ground or choose something unexpected next year.
Dutch Boy’s 2027 Color of the Year
Dutch Boy announced Deep Rooted, an earthy orange that underscores themes of grounding, authenticity, and human connection. The tone and its name reflect an interest in materials and colors that feel connected to soil, landscape, and craft.
Reviewing Dutch Boy’s past picks shows a balanced approach: they move between warm and cool tones, neutrals and color, light and dark, often favoring saturated hues with a slightly muted or “muddied” quality that works well indoors.
Graham & Brown’s 2027 Color of the Year
Graham & Brown selected Rose Earth as part of their Design of the Year. As a wallcoverings brand, they paired the hue with coordinating wallpaper patterns and a mural. Rose Earth, inspired by Italian clay, is a warm neutral that joins several other 2027 picks in referencing earth, roots, and grounded materials.
This marks Graham & Brown’s third consecutive warm, brown-leaning selection. Whether they continue in this direction or pivot back to more vibrant colors remains to be seen.
Our 2027 Color of the Year Predictions
Every year we take a friendly stab at predicting a few colors we think might appear on the Color of the Year lists. It’s a lighthearted exercise — sometimes we get close, sometimes not. For transparency, one of us saw Valspar’s announcement before making picks, while the other made selections blind, so the guessing stayed fun and impartial.
