Hi, I’m Sherry Petersik, and I have a soft spot for white ceramic animals. This time the find is actually white resin. Can you guess which creature stole my heart? Here’s a hint.
I’ll keep talking so you don’t see the photo below before you take a guess—if you want to play along. Ready? What animal do you think it is?
I could go on, but I’ll get straight to the story.
It all started when a reader named Nina sent an email with a photo and a tip. She wrote that she’d spotted a white resin ram’s head at the Broad Street TJ Maxx and that it was priced at $30. She mentioned she bought one and that there was another left on the shelf. Her message was the nudge I needed.
Nina’s picture convinced me that I needed to go see it in person. I begged—okay, insisted—that John drive me to TJ Maxx. We arrived about five hours after I got the email, just before the store closed. To my delight, the other ram was still there. No one else had claimed it.
So now it’s mine. I was thrilled. I know it sounds a little odd to be this excited about a decorative animal head, but I embrace the weird. I walked out to the car grinning like I’d won something—Clara was sleeping, so I brought the ram to the car while John stayed with her. He could tell right away I had “secured” our new ram.
At $30, I felt like I’d scored a great deal, especially compared to a very similar resin ram I’d seen from a high-end retailer that retails for well over two hundred dollars. This find felt like the perfect affordable alternative for a sculptural, statement piece in our home.
In our bedroom, the ram looks like a rustic trophy mounted on a wide-plank wall—it gives the room a playful, cabin-like vibe. I experimented with a few angles, and the piece reads differently depending on the perspective, sometimes feeling like wall art and other times more like a three-dimensional sculpture sitting near the bed.
In one shot, our dog Burger is stretching in the background. He padded out of bed, took a long, sleepy stretch, then padded over to the new addition to investigate.
After a few curious sniffs, Burger moved on to his usual routine, leaving the ram to settle into its new spot. It’s always amusing to watch how our pets react to new decor—some sniff, some ignore, and others act like it’s no big deal. Burger offered a casual canine approval, which, to me, counts for a lot.
I’m still deciding where the ram will ultimately live. I’m tempted to put him over our bed, but he’s not quite large enough to command that space on his own. I’m considering grouping him with a few other smaller white decorative animal heads to create a more intentional cluster—something with balanced scale and visual interest.
I know this aesthetic isn’t for everyone. The idea of sleeping under a ceramic or resin animal head might strike some as eccentric, but for me it’s fun and characterful. Home decor should reflect personality, and this piece feels like a cheerful, slightly oddball addition that makes me smile.
Update: By popular request, the photo of Burger stretching has been rotated 90 degrees so he appears to be scaling the wall—turns out a little whimsical perspective can make even a familiar moment feel new.
