We promised a post about the project that kept us busy yesterday, and we’ll share that as soon as the photos are uploaded and sized (we waited until daylight this morning to shoot the afters). In the meantime, here’s another pillow post — yes, we’ve had a bit of a pillow theme lately — that we meant to publish last week.
During our recently mentioned failed shower curtain attempt, we noted that our trip to HomeGoods wasn’t a total loss. What we didn’t explain in detail was the find that actually made us excited. We stumbled across a bold pair of greeny-gold pillows with just the right amount of personality, and they practically begged to be paired with our duvet. They were affordable, too — just $24 for the pair — and their subtle lattice pattern and slightly shiny fabric promised a little texture and visual interest without overwhelming the bed.
We liked the idea of balancing those richer tones with a simple white pillow in front for contrast. Right now we’re using a white Paris-themed pillow as a temporary choice, but we’re considering a few long-term options. One idea is to hunt for a ruffled white pillow similar to a West Elm style, but at a bargain from stores like TJ Maxx or World Market. Another idea is to be bolder and introduce a single, saturated accent pillow — maybe in eggplant, navy, or another deep hue — to create a focal point that ties into the room’s art and accessories as they evolve.
For now the greeny-gold pair gives the bed a welcome splash of color among our previously all-white pillow collection. It’s fun to have that extra layer of warmth and shine on the new bed; the pair manages to feel modern and a touch luxe without being too formal. The fabric catches light in a flattering way, and the lattice motif is visually interesting up close while being subtle from across the room.
The new pillows have also added a little extra personality to the room’s everyday life. Clara enjoys hiding behind them during impromptu games of hide and seek; they make a perfect little nook for a tiny person to vanish into for a few seconds. And our bigger resident is just as enthusiastic — he treats the pillows like part of his playground, often launching into goofy antics on and around the bed. Pets and pillows are a classic combo, and these new cushions have already become part of that tradition in our house.
We’ll be experimenting more with layering and accents over time. Adding a ruffled white pillow or a single bold-color cushion could shift the mood from soft and neutral to more tailored or dramatic, depending on what else we introduce in the room. Accessories, artwork, and lighting will all play a role in how the pillows feel as the room comes together, so there’s no rush to make a final choice.
