We were amazed that more than a thousand of you completed our blogiversary survey. Thank you so much for taking the time to share a bit about yourselves. It was lovely to meet many of you virtually and learn where you’re from, who you live with and even the names of your pets. Burger is particularly entertained by Tater and Angus — clearly he appreciates fellow food-named companions. Your responses showed a broad age range, from 15 to 66. One reader, Kay, described herself as “62 and cool as heck” and mentioned riding a Harley — how awesome is that? We were also glad to see some men chiming in, which made us feel less outnumbered.
We were surprised and thrilled by how geographically diverse our readership is. You’re tuning in from almost every U.S. state, from Alaska to Hawaii, and a long list of countries including Croatia, Singapore, France, Australia, Belgium, Greece, Bermuda, Colombia, Austria, Switzerland, Mexico, England, Estonia, China, Portugal, Scotland, Ireland, Wales, South Africa, Sweden, Italy, Holland, Germany, Spain, Malaysia and Canada. It’s incredible to see such an international community — merci, gracias, grazie and danke for reading.
Beyond demographics, your answers gave us clear direction on the content you’d like to see more of. Popular requests included rental-friendly ideas, organizing tips, affordable DIY projects, general tutorials, before-and-after transformations, house-crashing visits, entertaining ideas, eco-friendly projects and, of course, more appearances from Almost Doctor Dan (we’re already scheming his next cameo). A big shout-out went to “more Burger,” which we fully intend to deliver — he’s enjoying the attention and has been acting pretty pleased since his feature in The Nest magazine.
Two areas showed mixed opinions: videos and design dilemmas. Several readers said they couldn’t watch videos at work, while many others listed videos among their favorite features. Since we enjoy making them and they’re popular, videos will stay part of our regular offerings — consider them an optional extra alongside our photo-rich, work-friendly posts. Skip them at the office if needed, or catch up at home.
Design dilemmas also sparked divided responses. Many readers begged for more after photos — we love those too — while some found the posts long or hard to visualize and preferred to skip them. Because these posts are favorites for many of you, they’ll continue as a regular feature. That said, we’ll keep balancing longer dilemma posts with a variety of other topics so nothing gets crowded out. As one reader, Karen, put it: if a post isn’t for you, you can always scroll past, but don’t take things away. We couldn’t agree more.
The overarching message from the survey was encouragement to keep doing what we’re doing. That was a huge relief and really motivating. We’ve started adding many of your suggestions to our to-do list — you know we love a good project — and we’re excited to bring more of the ideas you asked for to life.
We also enjoyed the little personal touches and random tidbits you shared. Jessica’s love of cheese made us smile, and knowing that our blog serves as LauraC’s homepage was wonderfully flattering. Several readers complimented our proofreading and appreciated that we try to keep the site drama-free — that’s intentional; we want Young House Love to be a friendly place where visitors feel welcome.
Reading your responses was genuinely fun and inspiring. Learning how you live, who you share your home with, and which topics you want more of has filled our heads with new post ideas. Give yourself a pat on the back for helping shape our editorial calendar — your feedback truly made our day.
