It’s been exactly one month since move-in day, and we’re a little embarrassed we haven’t shared a video tour of the house until now. Consider this our virtual nudge to get moving. Between unpacking and endless lists, we finally grabbed the Flip and walked through the rooms to show how the space flows and what we’ve been doing so far.
We’ve been busy: unpacking boxes, making lists, painting the nursery and bedroom, frosting a door, removing a bi-fold, ordering a new duvet, assembling beds, tracking down a washer and dryer, removing shelves, arranging and repainting the built-in bookcases, and taking down and putting up the holiday decorations. Along the way we navigated a tangle of mirrors in some very odd places and adjusted to the quirks of the house. Our new washer and dryer have arrived (more on that in a future post), and once the dust settled a bit we filmed a quick walkthrough to share the current state of things.
This tour is designed to give a clear sense of the layout and how rooms connect, with some new angles you haven’t seen yet—close-ups of the closet, the kitchen sink, and other corners of the house. We kept the walkthrough focused on circulation and proportion rather than detailed project explanations, because we have a long list of half-finished plans and we prefer to share decisions as they happen. That approach helps us avoid getting overwhelmed and lets you follow each project in real time as it evolves.
We’re excited to show the bones of the house and how we’re living in it now, but we also want to avoid getting ahead of ourselves by promising changes before we’re certain. If you’re tempted to ask about paint colors, planned renovations, which fixtures we’ll keep or replace, or whether we’ll move a particular piece of furniture—please know we’re still exploring options and collecting ideas. We welcome suggestions, and we also tend to make decisions gradually as each project reveals new possibilities.
For reference, we included the rough floor plan we shared before moving in to make it easier to cross-reference room names with how we actually use them. Some rooms are labeled differently on the floor plan than what we call them in the video—for example, the space currently serving as the dining room was previously labeled as the living room. The floor plan helps explain our initial thinking and how it may shift as we go through renovations and decorating.
Once we’re further along with the transformation, we’ll do a more polished tour that focuses on finished rooms and decisions we’re happy to show. In the meantime, forgive the shaky camera work and quick pans of this initial video—the goal was to capture the house as it is and provide context for the projects ahead. We hope the tour gives you a clear impression of the layout and sparks ideas without overwhelming you with unfinished details.
