We’re moving my workspace into a new room that will double as an office, playroom, and guest room, so I wanted to give my old desk one last celebration: a four-way makeover using only items I already had. No spending, just creative reshuffling. The result was four distinct desk arrangements—each tailored to a different mood and mix of form and function.
Above is how the desk usually looks. From that baseline I experimented with small tweaks and swaps to create fresh looks for the same basic parsons desk. Below are the four arrangements and the practical needs each one addressed.

This setup was all about color and a light, happy vibe. I added a small potted plant in a turquoise pot, a pink vase filled with pencils, a blue ceramic fish, and some brightly colored books stacked on storage boxes. A cardboard rhinoceros provided a touch of whimsy. I also kept a colorful coaster, a handy notebook, a bright pen, and a pair of green mini scissors within reach.

Two glass votives organized paperclips and staples, and I kept my reading glasses and notebook handy. For scent and ambiance I placed a vanilla candle and a simple DIY reed diffuser on the desk. A few small ceramic birds added a personal touch.

Instead of storing jewelry, the egg crate now holds paperclips, push pins, safety pins, staples, and stamps. Four wooden block letters spelling “love” added a sweet touch.
