Dear house,
We still remember moving in exactly two years ago as if it happened yesterday. From the moment we first saw you, we were completely smitten. Looking back at that first exterior photo makes us laugh now, but even then we knew there was something special about you.

You had us at hello. Even your quirks were endearing: the odd shelf divider in the living room with a stained glass inset, and that faux-stone linoleum landing. They were charming in a way that hinted at character and potential rather than just outdated décor.

Who could resist the dated dining room wallpaper and the ancient kitchen cabinets that seemed to announce, “Paul Bunyan was here”? Those elements told stories of past lives lived in these rooms, and we saw them as opportunities to refresh and restore rather than reasons to walk away.

The master bedroom might have been rather plain, but we were thrilled with our first paint choice: a soft pale blue-gray that felt calm and fresh. Funny enough, it became the only paint color in the house we didn’t change at least once during the next two years.

Then there was the den — a smoky, wood-paneled room that initially felt like a relic from another era. Despite that, we signed the mortgage papers with barely contained excitement, dreaming of painting the paneling, updating the brick and beams, and replacing the tired dorm-style furnishings when the time and funds allowed.

The room that truly sealed the deal was the sunroom. Even though the carpet had an unfortunate odor, the space itself felt bright and inviting. We were eager to clean, refresh, and transform it into a favorite spot to relax and entertain.

There were plenty of other quirks: five tired ceiling fans covered in dust, no electrical outlets in either bathroom (which didn’t become apparent until we tried to plug in a hairdryer), and two fireplaces that stole our hearts. We also adored the front porch — one of the few on the block — and the vintage cow weather vane that somehow convinced us you were “the one.” Those small, imperfect details made you feel authentic and unique.

Thank you for the laughter, the lessons, the late-night projects, the occasional mishaps, and the many transformations over the past 731 days. You’ve been the backdrop for countless memories, small victories, and meaningful improvements. Each change we’ve made — whether painting a room, replacing a fixture, or simply cleaning until something sparkled — has brought us closer to the home we imagined.
Here’s to many more years of making this place ours: renovating thoughtfully, embracing the challenges, and celebrating the small triumphs. You welcomed us two years ago, and every day since you’ve reminded us why we chose you. Cheers to the next chapter in this house we proudly call home.
