Snow-Covered Brick Ranch Photos and Winter Inspiration

It’s still utterly picturesque here at Casa Petersik, one day after waking up to eight inches of fresh snow. Since this is the first time we’ve had measurable accumulation in the three years we’ve lived here, we couldn’t resist sharing another look at the gorgeous white blanket that transformed the property.

With the sun finally out, the photos look even better, though they still don’t capture the full magic. “Winter wonderland” feels like the right description. Below is a shot of our backyard, calm and charming under the snow:

Here’s a seldom-seen view of the back of our house, taken from the spot where that snow-covered arch appears in the photo above. The fresh snow highlights the architectural details and the contrast between the house’s different styles:

In that picture you can see me walking down the steps, red gloves in hand, right before a leisurely stroll around the neighborhood. Our house often reminds us of a mullet: business in the front, party in the back. The front presents a traditional, ranch-style face, while the rear—thanks to the sunroom addition—looks crisp and modern. Funny enough, most of our neighbors have no idea the addition exists because it’s tucked away and invisible from the street.

On a whim, I sculpted a little snow dog—what I like to call a “Snow Burger.” It was a quick, playful project that perfectly matched the day’s mood:

John made one too, and his ended up standing while mine sat. It’s funny how small differences give each one its own personality.

One of our favorite scenes is a nearby house we’ve nicknamed “the bed and breakfast.” Covered in snow it looks incredibly cozy and inviting, almost like a scene from a storybook. It even has a tennis court and pool tucked behind it—very charming.

We often joke that we’ll stay in our house forever, but then we see a property like that and momentarily entertain the idea of moving. The neighborhood felt especially peaceful after the snowfall, every familiar sight softened and renewed by the white cover.

How about you? Did the recent snow bring any memorable moments your way? Are there homes in your area that you can’t help admiring? Do you see your current house as a long-term home or a stepping stone to something else? We’d love to hear your stories—snow day adventures, dream houses in your neighborhood, or thoughts on how long you plan to stay put.
