We spent today packing, and although we expected it to be monotonous and exhausting, it turned out to be strangely thrilling.
Even the simple act of wrapping a stack of cups in newspaper felt like an exclamation point—“It’s happening! We’re really doing it!”
Can you believe what Clara looked like the last time we moved?
Three birthdays (and a surprising amount of hair growth) later, that baby is gone. Cue the tiny sniffles. In her place is a delightful, confident kid—complete with a temporary arm tattoo—so it feels like a fair trade.
Moving will change our lives in many ways, and it will change the blog too. The new house feels more like a potential long-term home for our family than any place we’ve lived before, so we’re approaching it with that in mind. That means we want our decisions—big and small—to support a vision of a house we could live in for decades: thoughtful materials, durable finishes, and design choices that will stand the test of time.
Because of that long-term mindset, we’ll probably take more time deliberating design choices, researching options, comparing approaches, and saving for materials and projects. The pace of change here may be slower than what you’ve come to expect from us lately. If you remember our first house, that steady, deliberate pace might feel familiar; our second place was faster and more experimental. This new chapter will likely fall somewhere closer to the patient rhythm of house number one.
That slower tempo doesn’t mean there won’t be exciting progress. Some weeks we’ll be on a roll—ripping out trim, painting, or installing new floors—while other weeks we might barely make a dent because we’re weighing options, waiting on deliveries, or saving up. That ebb and flow is just real life, and we’re embracing it. We want each change to be considered and meaningful, building, over time, a home we truly love.
We’re also excited to take on more projects for people we care about. Doing a renovation for family members was incredibly rewarding, and those outside-the-house projects have stretched us creatively and practically. Working on a friend’s or relative’s space often sparks new ideas for our own home and introduces techniques and finishes we wouldn’t have tried otherwise. Those detours are part of the fun of this work.
Expect a mix of content: home updates, family stories, and the random bits of life that make our days recognizable. That blend—projects, parenting, and everyday chaos—has always been our favorite combination, and we plan to keep it front and center here.
Some of you might prefer this more measured approach, others might miss the fast-paced renovations, and some might not notice a difference at all. For us, the change feels invigorating. It takes us back to when we first started sharing this journey: that spark of possibility and curiosity that made every small project feel like the beginning of something big.
