Thankful Thoughts and a Baguette Heist

To make today a bit livelier, here’s a little domestic scene that recently unfolded under our roof.
One afternoon, after lunch but before the table was cleared, our dog Burger decided to take matters into his own paws. With the aid of a chair, he managed to climb up to the dining table and grabbed half of a baguette that had been left uneaten. Realizing the trouble he might face if caught, he made a beeline for the closet and began devouring the stolen bread as if it were the last meal on earth.
I followed him into the closet, part of me worried he might choke on the crust and part of me wanting to document the mischief with my phone. The photo I snapped captures the moment perfectly: that blend of triumph and sheepish guilt is written all over his face. If you’ve ever seen a dog who knows he’s in the wrong but can’t help himself, you’ll recognize those guilty puppy eyes immediately.
Beyond the comedic theft, the scene reminded us how small, candid moments like this bring so much warmth to a home. Pets have a way of turning ordinary days into memorable ones, and even a baguette heist becomes part of the story we tell one another.
