DIY Laundry Nook Makeover: Affordable, Simple, and Stylish
I’m so excited to share this transformation — my favorite to date. We’ve created a brand-new laundry nook on a very small budget, and even though I don’t do the laundry myself (that honor goes to my partner), the space has completely changed the way our home feels. This tiny renovation added functionality, fresh style, and made laundry time a little brighter for everyone.

Our hallway used to feel cramped because of bi-fold doors and a narrow layout that cut into usable space. Removing the doors and rethinking the area opened up possibilities. What We Used (Three Affordable Elements)
- A piece of plywood for a custom counter
- Two large picture frames to conceal pipes and outlets
- Two sets of bamboo blinds to hide the overhead shelf
Those three simple items transformed the space. We built the countertop from a single sheet of plywood, painted it, and finished it with polyurethane for durability. The oversized frames came from Ikea and we used inexpensive wrapping paper as art — an easy, budget-friendly way to add texture and color while covering unattractive wall fixtures. Bamboo blinds provide a natural look and tuck away the storage shelf above the machines, keeping clutter out of sight when guests visit.
Storage Solutions That Work
Storage is essential in a small laundry room. We added a rolling storage caddy from Target (under twenty dollars) that fits perfectly between the washer and dryer. It holds detergent, stain removers, dryer sheets, and other cleaning supplies — everything within reach but neatly organized.
