We were surprised to realize it’s been nearly two years since our last video house tour. Even more surprising was noticing how much our home has changed in that time.
At first it felt like we hadn’t done much to the Richmond house while we focused on the beach house and the duplex renovations. But when we re-watched those videos from 2016, it felt like ages ago. Back then, our son’s nursery hadn’t been transformed into a big boy bedroom, our daughter’s room was mid-makeover, and Sherry hadn’t yet gone on her minimizing spree. There have also been noticeable updates to our bedroom and living room, which made us realize we haven’t ignored this house as much as we thought.
Arguably the biggest change in over five years is happening outside right now: we’re in the middle of painting our brick exterior. We’ll share a giant, detailed post with everything—what we did, how we did it, and how much it cost—once the project is finished. For now, you can follow the progress on Instagram Stories, or dive into the inside of the house with these video tours of the entire first and second floors. We skipped the third story because it’s just an unfinished attic.
For the downstairs tour we stuck with our usual approach: I walked with the camera while Sherry narrated. It plays to our strengths, and it gives a realistic sense of what it’s like to move through the rooms. The recording was a little shakier than I thought, so I ran a stabilizing filter over it; that smoothed most of the motion but introduced a few small glitches. It still shows the house accurately—just ignore the dining table that’s piled with stuff for the duplex (this was recorded a few weeks back).

The upstairs tour runs a bit longer because there are more rooms to show—and a few unfinished spaces too. We shot that video before Sherry filmed her closet tour (so the mirror isn’t hung yet) and before we added the treadmill to the bonus room, so you’ll see both rooms in their earlier states.
