Although we’ve been enjoying a crisp, colorful aesthetic lately, we still have a soft spot for warm, layered neutrals — the kind that filled our first house. So when Rhoda sent over photos and details of her sister Renee’s bedroom redo, it felt like a welcome return to that cozy, lived-in look. Hi, Sherry & John! I wanted to share my latest project: a complete refresh of my sister’s bedroom suite. The room was a big space that hadn’t been updated since 1999, so it was definitely due for a makeover.
Walking into the room now reveals a completely new perspective. That stenciled accent wall became a defining feature and really finished the look. My sister and I worked on the design together and it came together in a way that feels both modern and timeless.
She had excellent taste from the start and had already chosen the main color palette and a few fabrics to build on. She asked me to help select the remaining fabrics, area rugs, artwork, accessories, lighting, and draperies. It was a fun collaboration — we bounced ideas off each other and honed the look until it felt right.
Rather than replacing the existing wingback chairs, we chose to have them recovered by a skilled local upholsterer. The chairs now feel fresh and tailor-made for the space, and the craftsmanship really shows.
