Goaltending Techniques Every Hockey Goalie Should Know

Even as we sort through the great suggestions from our recent reader poll, it feels like the right moment to set clear goals for year two of Young House Love. Writing these intentions down publicly helps keep us accountable—and gives us an excited audience to share the progress with. Below are ten concrete aims we’re aiming to achieve on the homestead and across the blog in the coming year.

John and Sherry Petersik

Write More Engaging Posts – We want to publish more interactive, creative posts that invite readers to participate. Expect fun before-and-after features, hands-on projects, and posts that encourage you to share your own photos and ideas. Our goal is to make the blog feel like a two-way conversation rather than a one-sided broadcast.

Refresh Our Video Content – We’re shifting roles behind the camera to improve our video output. I’ll take on more of the video duties so John can appear more on camera during tours and feature segments. We plan to produce clearer, more polished video tours, quick how-tos, and candid behind-the-scenes clips that complement the written content.

Listen and Respond – You told us you want specific features—budget room makeovers, a deal-of-the-week highlight, and more practical, low-cost solutions. We’re listening and will prioritize regular, repeatable features that deliver immediate value and inspiration for readers working on a tight budget.

Adopt Greener Practices – Becoming more eco-conscious is a real priority. We’ll be researching and testing greener products, sharing safer cleaning alternatives, and documenting projects that use sustainable materials. We’ll also lean on the community for recommendations and real-world experiences to guide better choices.

Kid-Friendly Makeovers – Quick, same-day children’s room transformations are on the docket. We loved collaborating on other people’s spaces and now want to focus on kid rooms—bright, practical, affordable makeovers that balance style with durability. These projects will showcase fast, impactful solutions parents can replicate on a weekend.

Expand Our Shop – We plan to grow our shop beyond prints and portraits, eventually offering home accessories and accents designed to make rooms feel intentional and styled. Expect curated, well-made pieces that reflect the practical aesthetic you see on the blog, introduced slowly and thoughtfully.

Upgrade Our Tech – Improving our technical skills and tools will help us present richer content. We’ll learn better photo and video techniques, optimize site performance, and explore new formats for sharing projects. The goal is to remove technical hiccups so creativity flows more freely.

Be More Socially Present – We want to get better at using social platforms to share quick tips, project updates, and candid moments. That means more consistent engagement, smarter cross-posting, and timely content that makes it easier for you to follow along and interact with us throughout the week.

Visit More Homes – House-crashing the best rooms across different cities was a highlight, and we want to expand that effort beyond our hometown. We’re aiming to visit diverse homes to capture how people live across regions, highlighting varied design approaches and resourceful solutions from coast to coast.

Remember Why We Do This – Blogging involves a lot of work—typing, editing, uploading, troubleshooting—but we love it. When things go wrong, like server problems or accidentally deleted posts, we want to step back, breathe, and remember how fortunate we are to do creative work every day. Enjoying the process will help sustain our energy and keep the content fresh.

So that’s our plan for the next year. We hope these goals will lead to better content, more helpful projects, and stronger connections with all of you. What about you—any goals for the next 366 days that you’d like to share? We’d love to hear what you’re planning and any milestones you’re aiming to hit.
