Yesterday marked two weeks since we moved into our new house, so we wanted to share an updated look at how each room is coming together. Some spaces already feel settled, while others still look like works in progress.
We’re proud of what we’ve accomplished in a short time: painting Clara’s room, assembling a new bed, removing several bi-fold doors, raising the shower curtain, and unpacking most of our boxes. Even with holiday visits in the first week, we managed to get a lot done.
That said, the house still feels unsettled. Essentials have largely found a place, though that placement may be temporary as we test what works. Many items are still in transitional piles—picture frames, tools, rugs, and other décor are waiting for a permanent home. Below are the rooms that currently look the most presentable and the ones that still need work.
The living room, which will also serve as the future dining room, is finally clear of moving boxes. We’ve started organizing storage inside the built-in base cabinets, though displayed objects are currently placed more for convenience than for styling. We’ll refine the arrangement as we finish unpacking and decide on decorative accents.
In the kitchen we’ve unpacked what we use most and arranged frequently accessed items within easy reach. There’s still a bit of cabinet reorganization and styling left to do, but the space is functional and ready for daily use.
The family room feels cozy and is already being used, though we plan to tweak furniture placement and add art and accessories to make it feel more complete. It’s satisfying that this room is both comfortable and practical while we continue to fine-tune the layout.
The sunroom has become a bright, relaxed spot for morning coffee and casual reading. It will eventually get more intentional seating and plant arrangements, but for now it’s a pleasant, light-filled extension of the living area.
Clara’s bedroom is one of the more finished spaces: the walls are painted and curtains are hung. We still need to install a new light fixture and add artwork to personalize the room, but it’s already a comfortable, kid-friendly retreat.
The hall bathroom and guest bathroom are functional and tidy. We’ve installed the essentials and cleared out moving-related items. The master bathroom is also in working order, though a few final touches—hardware, storage solutions, and decorative elements—remain on the to-do list.
The main hallway is open and mostly clear, providing a good flow through the house. We’ll add decorative elements and organization systems to make this space more purposeful as we continue unpacking.
Some rooms are semi-functional but still feel disheveled. Our master bedroom is livable, yet the closet needs organizing, and we’re still deciding on nightstand solutions and whether we need an additional dresser. The office currently houses a pile of tools and project materials that need a proper storage solution so the room can function as a productive workspace.
The laundry and mudroom are usable but lack built-in storage and organization. Adding hooks, cubbies, and labeled bins will make these spaces much more efficient for daily routines.
Finally, there are rooms that are basically holding zones until we sort everything out. The guest room is far from ready for visitors and is serving as temporary storage for items in limbo. The playroom—intended as a future kids’ bedroom—also needs safety updates, storage, and child-friendly furniture before it’s suitable for play or sleeping.
That’s the current snapshot: two weeks in, with clear progress but plenty left to do. We’re putting together a detailed to-do list to stay organized and to share with you, and our next stop will likely be Home Depot for supplies to complete the remaining projects.
