Ready for another house-crashing adventure? We visited a beautiful home in Roswell, Georgia owned by Julie, one of the founders of Milk & Honey Home. Her effortless mix of colors, patterns, textures, and budget-conscious choices makes this house a real source of inspiration. We’re grateful she welcomed us in and allowed us to share these photos. Let’s take a look around.
The foyer right past the front door is stunning — it feels like stepping into a jewel box. The scalloped mirror, found on sale at Ballard Designs, immediately caught my eye, and the wallpaper is an affordable find from Home Depot. A Pottery Barn ceiling fixture and lamps from HomeGoods complete the vignette, while the console table is a charming secondhand piece. The whole entry sets the tone for the rest of the house.
I could have lingered in the foyer for hours.
Before we go further, meet Julie. She was warm and down-to-earth, and by the time we left we’d spent a lot of the visit casually chatting in her son’s room while our photographer wandered the house capturing details.
To the left of the foyer is a dramatic sitting room painted in a deep black that provides a striking backdrop for layered textures and metallic accents. The slipper chairs were picked up at the Pottery Barn Outlet and a West Elm chandelier anchors the space. A large driftwood mirror found at HomeGoods adds organic texture against the dark walls.
The lofted living room was a thoughtful DIY project Julie and her husband completed after moving in. They kept the original beams, added tongue-and-groove ceiling panels, and installed narrow 1×2 boards on the walls to emulate board-and-batten without the expense. A bold pendant light hangs over the seating area; Julie can source the same fixture through Milk & Honey Home. The sofa is an older piece that was refreshed with a custom slipcover to better suit the new palette.
The room blends modern, rustic, and glamorous elements for a layered, curated feel that’s both cozy and stylish.
The pass-through to the kitchen is playful and practical. Framed portraits of Julie’s children from Ikea and stools from Crate & Barrel make the opening inviting. Casual paper garlands and a silver deer head draw the eye toward the floating shelves in the kitchen, creating a lively focal point.
In the kitchen, a large glass ceiling fixture from Pottery Barn provides an elegant overhead statement. The backsplash tile is Walker Zanger — an investment Julie saved for and used in just that small area to keep costs manageable. The countertops are limestone, and photographed beautifully in person: natural, textured, and full of character.
Julie mixes antique details, like vintage shelf brackets, with clean, modern shaker cabinets and open shelving for a layered look that feels collected rather than matchy. The dining set — table, bench, and chairs — is from Crate & Barrel, while the chandelier above the table was found at a secondhand shop, adding unexpected charm.
We were smitten with the kitchen and could have shared many more photos of it.
The guest room began with a red rug Julie already owned. To modernize the space and incorporate the rug, she painted the walls a soft teal (Pratt & Lambert Pacific) once she found a teal-and-red vase at Anthropologie. The color ties the room together in a fresh, contemporary way.
Julie’s two boys share a room and love it. She furnished it with two twin beds and hung oversized initials from Ballard Designs (clearance finds) above them. The opposite wall houses a cabinet full of toys, making the room both practical and welcoming — the perfect spot for kids to play.
The hall bathroom is built for durability with basic white subway tile from Lowe’s and gray grout — a sensible choice for a busy kids’ bath. The vanity came with the house; Julie updated it with a soft khaki-gray-green paint for a refreshed appearance without a full remodel.
Small details throughout the house really stand out, like a collection of vintage doorknobs Julie has sourced over time. Her bedroom opens through glass French doors to the bathroom, and the room is a soothing white-on-white palette punctuated by a pop of blue on a dresser — a simple but effective accent.
The master bathroom contains a gorgeous tub set on a white penny-tile floor. Subway tile from Lowe’s and ruffled curtains repurposed from Target as a shower drape give the space a soft, layered look. A chandelier found at a secondhand shop named Queen Of Hearts Antiques adds a lovely finishing touch.
Julie’s thoughtful blend of handmade pieces, resale finds, and budget-friendly sources like Lowe’s and Target makes this home feel collected, lived-in, and stylish. The mix of textures — wood, metal, glass, and fabric — creates warmth and visual interest throughout.
