We made excellent progress on the deck this weekend, despite an unexpected water main break right in front of our house. For a while gallons of water streamed down the road until we noticed the problem and reported it. Five crew members worked for about seven hours with our street’s water shut off to repair the break after digging a large hole at the corner of our yard and the road. It was dramatic, inconvenient, and ultimately resolved—running water was restored and the neighborhood breathed a sigh of relief.
With the water back on, we turned our attention back to house-spotting. We’ve been smitten with this home for a while, and although we weren’t able to visit in person when we were in Atlanta, Meghan kindly shared beautiful photographs and descriptions of her space so we could enjoy a virtual tour. Her background in hotel design gives her an eye for composition, scale, and texture, but her home feels warm, approachable, and full of practical, stylish ideas that anyone can borrow.
The living room opens with a neutral, textured palette punctuated by thoughtful splashes of color. A small orange accent table and a yellow tray on the coffee table bring cheerful energy without overwhelming the calm, layered neutrals. Personal details—like a bronze Buddha head Meghan brought back from her honeymoon in Bali—add character and memory to the space.
On the opposite side of the room a grid of mirrors amplifies light and creates an airy feeling. Elegant, modern pieces such as an acrylic coffee table sit comfortably alongside more tactile items—a jute rug and linen-like chairs—resulting in a balanced, collected-over-time aesthetic. The mix of sleek surfaces and natural textures gives the room both polish and warmth.
The dining area continues the theme of layered materials. A textured pendant chandelier provides a focal point and atmosphere. Meghan pairs sculptural white chairs with a woven rug and a statement light fixture to create a dining space that feels both contemporary and lived-in. It’s the kind of setup that reads as styled but still entirely usable for everyday life.
The den takes a moodier turn with grasscloth wallpaper that adds depth and subtle pattern. Dark furnishings—the sofa, iron coffee table, and framed artwork—anchor the room, while warm accents in spicy oranges and reds bring contrast and a welcoming glow. The result is intimate and refined, a room that feels designed for quiet evenings and good conversation.
Small vignettes throughout the house reveal an attention to detail. A curated collection of vases and decorative sea fans introduces texture and sculptural interest, while staying cohesive with the home’s overall neutral backdrop. These small displays show how accessories can be layered to feel deliberate rather than fussy.
The kitchen blends sleek finishes with rustic touches. Stainless pulls and appliances create a modern, clean look, while natural elements in the window shade, tone-on-tone backsplash tile, and a well-loved rug lend warmth and personality. Family hand-me-downs and thoughtfully chosen textiles keep the space feeling personal and relaxed instead of showroom-stern.
The bedroom favors moody gray walls and a sumptuous upholstered headboard that invites relaxation. Patterned pillows and a graphic rug add dimension, while the carefully selected color hints—warm reds and oranges—tie the room to the rest of the house. The overall effect is calm, layered, and quietly sophisticated.
The outdoor space is a highlight: a large sectional creates an expansive, comfortable seating area framed by delicate lanterns and colorful pillows. The setup reads like an extension of the interior—designed for lounging, entertaining, and enjoying fresh air without sacrificing style. Small details like lace-like lanterns and textured textiles make the patio feel thoughtfully pulled together.
We’re grateful to Meghan for inviting us to see her home through photos and descriptions. Even though we couldn’t visit in person, her images and design choices make it easy to imagine living in and learning from each room. Our favorites? I’m partial to the cozy den and the inviting outdoor area, while John favors the dining room’s textured pendant light. What stands out to you?
