If you remember, we closed our last post by mentioning that we would eventually buy a new washer and dryer for the now more open laundry nook. We didn’t end up waiting long. What started as a quick trip to “just look” turned into a purchase when we discovered a series of solid deals that were hard to pass up.
We zeroed in on the Whirlpool Duet Sport washer and matching dryer because of their compact footprint and surprisingly quiet, efficient performance. Those features made them a great fit for our smaller laundry space and open nook design. The pair had an original combined price of about $1,610, but they were on clearance for $1,480 because the store was preparing to roll out next year’s models.
Things got better quickly. A helpful sales associate named Robert pointed out a promotion offering 10% off all Energy Star appliances. Since the washer carried an Energy Star label, that discount trimmed roughly another $75 from our total, bringing it down to about $1,405. Robert then walked us through opening a store credit card, which came with a one-time 10% discount on the purchase. That additional reduction took off about $140, lowering our final washer-and-dryer cost to $1,255.
The combination of clearance pricing and stacked store discounts added up to a total savings of about $355 on the laundry set. With that kind of savings, and the new card providing 10% off other purchases, we didn’t hesitate to pick up the dishwasher we’d been eyeing for the kitchen. It matched our existing refrigerator and stove perfectly and was priced around $350. Because it also qualified as an Energy Star appliance and was part of the same credit card transaction, we received the 10% discount twice, reducing its price to approximately $280.
When you factor in the savings on the washer and dryer, grabbing the dishwasher felt practically like getting it at no extra cost. Beyond the sticker price, the new appliances would also help streamline the look of our kitchen and laundry areas, delivering both better efficiency and a cohesive aesthetic.
An extra perk was that the store offered free appliance delivery, which included installation and removal of our old units at no additional charge. Free delivery and haul-away simplified the logistics and made the upgrade even more worthwhile. Having the retailer handle installation and responsibly remove the old appliances removed a lot of the hassle and let us focus on arranging the new layout of the laundry nook and kitchen.
All told, the decision to “just take a look” turned into a well-timed purchase: clearance pricing, Energy Star discounts, and a credit-card promotion combined to deliver meaningful savings. We came away with modern, energy-efficient appliances that fit our space, matched our existing kitchen finishes, and were installed without extra cost or effort.
