Filming the video tour of our showhouse progress reminded us that it’s been far too long since we made a proper tour of our own home. Many of you have asked for an updated walkthrough, and since the last video we posted was really the “before” of this house, we were definitely overdue. So here’s a fresh, candid look at our current, very much in-progress home — a room-by-room snapshot of how things are evolving.
A few notes about the video you’ll see:
- Some rooms are genuine “disaster zones” right now — the dining room, the guest room, and an unfinished storage area are serving as temporary holding zones for things that don’t yet have a permanent home. We left those scenes unpolished because that’s the honest state of renovating and living in a house at the same time.
- There’s a brief moment where we point out bins of baby girl clothes in the living room that Sherry plans to consign or donate. It’s a small detail, but those everyday bits are part of the story of a home in transition.
- You’ll catch a peek at the bathroom ceiling, which is only halfway finished — a good reminder that renovation is often a series of half-done steps that slowly become whole.
- I held the camera while Sherry narrated. We found this worked better than letting her shoot on her own — she tends to get too much into the Blair Witch vibe — and it helped keep the commentary flowing without long awkward pauses.
- There are a couple of obvious edits in the footage — like the cut when I walked down a dark hallway toward the laundry room, or an instance where I accidentally bumped the camera into a closet wall and muttered something under my breath. We left those in because authenticity felt more important than perfection.
- Burger, our dog, makes a cameo and calmly keeps acting like nothing unusual is happening — the perfect low-key cameo.
We also included the original house tour video from way back in May for anyone who wants to compare then-and-now. That early footage was filmed before we had even moved in, so it’s fun to watch the progression and see what’s changed — and what’s still a work in progress.
