I keep saying that Katie B and I stared at each other for 48 hours straight, and she wrote about the whole weekend on her blog. We had a blast—part of the story involves Will having a bathroom incident in the tub while bathing with Clara, and Jeremy and John accidentally showing up in matching beverage-themed shirts on Sunday. It was a ridiculous, memorable few days.
She also mentioned our pedicure adventure and a little mountaintop downtime. Between the laughs and the small mishaps, the weekend felt equal parts chaotic and charming.
Now, about our Goodwill excursion: we decided to wander the thrift-store aisles looking for take-home treasures and thought it might be blog material. What we ended up with is an 11-minute video of two giddy grown-ups who giggle like teenagers whenever an innuendo creeps in. If you’re picturing twelve-year-old friends braiding hair, applying sparkly nail polish, and swooning over posters while having a pillow fight—that’s pretty accurate. If you can watch the clip, be warned: it’s embarrassingly silly. If you can’t, imagine the above and you’ll get the idea.
A few highlights and notes from the trip:
- We opened the video the way we always do—squatting into frame and standing up—which has become our signature entrance.
- In under eleven minutes we somehow managed to joke about bras, maxi pads, and male anatomy. Yes, we were mildly mortified afterward.
- Katie’s shirt came from the J.Crew Outlet—because someone always asks about wardrobe.
- We used a bleep in the editing because, for whatever reason, it made everything funnier to us.
- There’s a moment when John walks through the frame holding Clara while I’m talking about tiny chairs that cracks me up—his expression is pure Vanna White.
- I borrowed Katie’s flip-flops, which is why they look a bit big on me. My wedges weren’t practical for running around a thrift store.
- If you catch the dorky Friends reference almost immediately—nice eye. It’s there.
- Katie is noticeably taller and more glamorous than I am, so no need to comment on my short shorts and pale legs.
- Shoppers and the store intercom pass through the footage, and not once did an employee ask us to stop filming. Southern hospitality for the win.
- At one point you can hear the song “Yackity Yack” playing in the background—an unexpectedly perfect thrift-store soundtrack.
We planned to add a short segment at the end of the video about what not to buy at Goodwill, but the footage ran long and the whole thing was more embarrassing than we expected, so we skipped it. Instead, here are a few quick examples of items you probably shouldn’t bring home from a thrift shop—oddities and questionable decor that are better admired from a distance than displayed in your living room.
While Katie and I Flip-cammed our way through the store, the husbands and kids found their own entertainment. Giant wooden spoons were a surprising hit—John waved one at Clara, and she opened her mouth like a hungry little bird every time. It was equal parts sweet and hilarious.
Goodwill and other thrift stores are full of strange and wonderful surprises. What’s the most memorable thing you’ve ever found at a thrift shop? For me, it was a gilded ceramic double-unicorn vase—so bizarre I had to pick it up and make sure it was real. Share your finds and let’s compare treasure-hunting stories.
Psst—big thanks to Katie Bower for being an amazing host, friend, and fellow weirdo. I’m so glad blogging brought us together and turned an online friendship into a real-life one. Miss you already. Also, that fajita meat wasn’t burnt—just extra well done, and that’s how I like it.
Psssst—if you want more cringe-worthy KB + SP gigglefest videos, there are a few other clips from our adventures that show the same ridiculous energy. Consider this your warning and your invitation to laugh along.
