Filming the video tour of our showhouse progress reminded us that it’s high time we made an updated tour of our own home (and a lot of you have been asking for one). The last tour we posted was the “before” of this house, so calling this long overdue is an understatement. Thanks for your patience—here’s a fresh look around our very much in-progress home:
A few things you might notice in the video:
- There are a few disaster zones in the house—the dining room, the guest room, and the unfinished storage room. These spaces have become the deposit for items without a permanent home yet, so we showed them candidly rather than hiding the clutter.
- We point out the bins of baby girl clothes sitting in the living room that Sherry plans to consign or donate. Somehow, when the camera’s on, we always find ourselves highlighting the most random little details.
- You’ll get a quick peek at the bathroom ceiling, which is only halfway finished at the moment.
- I did the filming while Sherry narrated. We discovered that Sherry’s handheld camera style can be a little too Blair Witch for comfort, and I’m better at keeping the camera steady even if I’m not as smooth with the commentary.
- Sherry insists there’s nothing awkward about her voiceover—she especially likes her final line in the video.
- There are a couple of noticeable edits, like when I walked down a long, dark hallway toward the laundry room, or when I spun and accidentally knocked the camera against a closet wall and may have mumbled an unflattering word.
- Burger makes a brief cameo and handles it with pure nonchalance: “Don’t mind me, I’ll just keep eating.”

Do you ever wander through your house with a camera—video or stills—to capture the way things look now? It’s easy to put off doing it because it feels a bit awkward in the moment, but having those recordings is surprisingly valuable. They serve as a time capsule you can look back on to see how much changed, what you fixed, and how the house evolved through projects, paint choices, and furniture decisions.
