It’s hard to believe it’s been seven months since our last house tour video—definitely too long. So here’s a fresh one: about eight minutes of me wandering through the house, talking about whatever comes to mind, while the Flip cam captures all the shaky, Blair-Witch-style footage. We thought now would be a great time to film since the kitchen is finished and we’re about to start several new projects: some landscaping, updating one of the three bathrooms we haven’t touched yet, building a large deck, and more. Come on in and take a look:
A few quick notes about the video:
- I’m still dealing with a scratchy voice two weeks after the flu, so apologies for the croakiness.
- Yes, I realize a trifecta is three things, not two. My brain was clearly fried that day.
- Progress: my bra isn’t draped over the bedroom chair this time. That means I was actually wearing one while filming—small victories count.
- I listened to the recording several times to try to hear what people say sounds like Natalie Portman or Mila Kunis. I honestly tried, but I couldn’t make it out.
- I filmed a few minutes, then noticed that the front of the bedroom door—where we did a secret book project—was visible, so I had to start over. Minor production hiccup.
- Play a round of “Where’s Burger” while watching—he’s in the video. Also, my best friend unexpectedly appears in a window for a second as she arrived while I was rushing to film. If the house looks clean in places, that’s why.
- You’ll see my shadow wildly gesturing when I talk about the playroom door I can’t open. Apparently I gesture whether anyone can see me or not.
- I’m not great at walking, talking, and holding a camera at the same time, so pardon the shakiness. Multitasking camera work is difficult.
On a completely different note, Cougar Town fans—who watched Tuesday’s episode? Our ceramic rhino made a background appearance. It’s a small, silly thrill to see pieces from our home show up on TV.
I’m starting to think rhinos might be the new elephant or owl in home décor. It seems like everyone is adding quirky ceramic animals to their rooms—ceramic dogs, rhinos, fluffy cats—these little accents are trending in unexpected places. I even noticed a ceramic dog sitting near a TV celebrity on a recent show, and a fluffy white cat being briefly shown and stroked. Decorative animals are everywhere, whether you love them or, like me, are allergic to real ones.
