We’re celebrating fifty episodes and one year of podcasting with a special “podiversary” episode that takes you behind the scenes. In this show we share some of our strangest moments, the cringiest sound bites, and even an actual email we received from Beyoncé’s dad. We talk about what we love about podcasting (sometimes even more than blogging), what drives us crazy about it, and how a pizza nearly derailed our very first recording. We also introduce the small, talented crew who make the show happen behind the scenes—spoiler: they’re delightfully weird, too.

- Quick gear notes: we use a reliable microphone, pop filters to soften hard “P” sounds, and Audacity to edit the audio (it’s free and powerful enough for our needs).
Homeslice Logos
- Before our first choice for the podcast name was off the table, we experimented with a few rough logo ideas. As you can see from the sketches, we didn’t get very far before realizing we needed to check iTunes availability first.
- For those who loved the pizza concept: the Home Slice podcast is no longer on iTunes, but you can still find their short run on SoundCloud.
We’re Digging
- If you’re curious about the Ms. Meyer’s candle shortcut we mentioned, Sherry’s favorite scent is Lemon Verbena, which matches the all-purpose cleaner we use on counters.
- It’s also available in Geranium, Lavender, and Basil—Basil might sound odd but it’s surprisingly pleasant.
- For a fun, tactile activity that’s kept our kids busy, we recommend kinetic sand—messy, but endlessly entertaining.
